My Land 8103 was awkward to open. It needed more force than normal, in a very particular direction.
Was not just a one-off, most owners at the time said the same, even the stores who sold it!
I donât know if they improved it in later batches.
Messerunco who sell the Land 812 Ti specfically state âoptimal detent, unlike the steel versionâ. So I guess that means the steel version still sucks !
Well, mine didnât suck when it was new and I have no problem with the thumb studs like others, so I was positively surprised.
But polishing the metal washers definitely helped, I can shake it to close at the last half.
The metal washer must lay on the blade obviously. And oh, there were some burrs on the outside at the pivot screw.
and sadly even on the inside
polished
As it comes it should cost as much as a SRM 710 but on them I never had such issues. Also the 910s I had in hand were all close to perfect.
For a tinkerer like me the 811 is a good knife but it shouldâve appeared like 5 years ago already.
Yes, I have many 710s, 910s and other SRM models with no fit & finish issues. 8103 just seemed to be a turkey ⌠at the time a store rep told me they were aware of the problem and it would be revised.
Itâs funny, around the same time Sanrenmu were moving towards more âpremiumâ offerings (sometimes $70 or more) and yet they had many quality issues on the 8103/4 - which in my opinion was a little bit overpriced anyway. I guess maybe their attention was elsewhere.
Anyway it is a shame now there are many interesting models which you cannot buy from Gearbest, Fasttech, Exduct etc. You can only buy them from European dealers or a couple of Aliexpress stores with high prices.
I guess itâs hard to resist Ganzoâs FH41 and FH51. However, I found the Sanrenmu 9165 on your blog and this one seem to be the right thing. Sandvik 12C27 steel, carbon fibre handle and slipjoint with removable lock pin for the price of a tasty steak meal. Moreover, this knife will be conform to Germanyâs (stupid) §42a.
Can anyone help me to pick the right seller? I saw it here for a bit less and customer feedback is quite good.
You already asked me the same question. Yes it is but not too much thanks to the holes. The biggest mistake from this knife is that you canât unscrew the thumb-studâŚ
The thumb stud is looking like the same construction as the one used on the SRM Land 910 series but more resembling to the SRM 710s studs.
Thatâs a screwed construction One side is held in a D-shaped hole, the other one is the screw head.
IIRC the one to turn was on the locking side so it wonât unscrew from opening.
You should heat up the lugs and apply some tape onto you pliers. It really sucks to scratch a satinized blade that way.
