TK's Emisar D4 review

Yes

What was the original maximum for this? I cant remember if it was 100% on my Q8 or if I was tinkering with the code. I kinda like having full blast lightning mode.

FWIW, I think the D18 might actually still ship with muggle mode. That might change next time he makes a batch of drivers though.

About lightning mode, there was a bug where it could only go up to level 143/150. That’s fixed now, and it can go up to 150/150. The actual values are totally random though, so I doubt anyone would even notice a difference.

New revision? Gray came to me today. Ordered May 29. Gray has a mcpcb with 23mm diameter.

Mine is shipped on May 28 and it have the new head but the old mcpcb of 20mm.

Maybe the big mcpcb means a 21700 version?

The grey almost looks like theres a smaller mcpcb with thicker tube walls compared to the black on on the right. More thermal mass?

Edit: Just checked my tint mixed D4 shipped 5/27/19 and mine looks like Alex64’s.

Is the new D4 switch recessed more?

It’s white (on the left) and gray (on the right). There is no black D4.

I believe I figured out I have the v2 software - that’s still the “original D4” though?

After the tailcap is loosened and tightened, one click gives a fairly bright output, then holding the button makes it ramp up to astoundingly bright.

In other news, still trying to unscrew the bezel without scraping off the green coating (which came off quite easily when/where I removed the pocket clip)

Mine is the same recess than the other D4 purchased 2 months ago, but the rubber switch has a bit dead zone than the other D4 doesn’t have.

Thanks.

LOL, that’s ridiculous, muggle mode is (imho) one of the most actually practical features of the Anduril UI and would be the only reason I would take it over Ramping IOSV2 in a D4. There is no sense removing it since it’s quit deeply hidden and accidental activation is impossible.

Couldn’t agree more, muggle mode is so handy every time one of my kids want to borrow a flashlight :+1:

I agree, especially on these small lights. Right now I just use the stepped ramp for lower output, but its easy to figure out how to switch.
Personally I wish momentary was better hidden since it needs power disconnected to be disabled. Something impossible to do accidentally like 8 clicks vs sandwiching it between lockout and muggle.

So… I was a bit of an idiot and forgot to remove the cell when swapping the mcpcb. I managed to short the LED+ to the body for a fraction of second. Everything worked fine, but the regulated modes were much lower; moonlight was the brightness when doing a diode test with a multimeter. The 100% 7135 mode was about half as bright as it should be. FET modes are completely fine, as are all the blinkies & such.

Anyway, I’ve replaced the 7135 and I’ve still got the exact same problem. I was thinking it could be the attiny chip, but all the software features work. Any ideas?

wondering if one of the resistors got fried, and the 7135 is not getting fully enabled? If you can measure the resistance and its higher than marked on the part, that would suggest something. Of course if the resistance is lower, than its hard to say if there’s a parallel path somewhere causing that.

Thanks, didn’t think of that. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the issue as all the resistors are measuring correct. The diode is fine too.

Yes, the version with RampingIOS V2 is the “original D4”. RampingIOS V1 was only shipped on a small handful of lights, so it was basically an unplanned beta test.

That’s odd. The D4 bezel normally comes off really easily, just by grabbing it and twisting.

I was unable to unscrew mine without tools either.

I would say get a new driver board. I messed up programming one of mine, and was able to purchase a replacement from Mtn Electroncics for like $5 shipped.

My new D4 with SST20s, 4000K, arrived today, ordered on May 16.

I asked Hank to flash it with Anduril... check! The version on mine does not have muggle mode.

I've been using a Sofirn SP32A clip, additionally secured with a hose washer, on my other D4 and even clipped to a cap, it holds strong and won't fall easily. Just to keep it in the family, I ordered Hanks latest clip offering and I haven't noticed anything negative about it. Good clip.

And as a BONUS!, I received an LG HG2 inside the light. I think he must have been testing this custom build with it but Thank You! nonetheless.

With the UI of this light, I could almost forget my other lights! For trips, it's certainly my default side-light cannon. I only 'need' a thrower and standard tube light (S2+, SP32A, etc.) to round out the potential niches.

Thank you Hank and ToyKeeper!

Why do I feel an updated D4~ is imminent? (21700?)

(Well they are sold out ya know, and I don’t think the paradigm is saturated.)
