Viltrox FA-D10 LED panel review

This is not really a lantern but it has an integrated battery and it uses LEDs so here it goes. A short picture review of a great small high CRI light source.

I bought the Viltrox FA-D10 from Amazon for 39.58€ and it arrived in less than a week.

Advertised CCT range of 3200-5600K with a bit of a tolerance.

Comes with a diffuser, camera hotshoe to tripod screw adapter, USB Type-C cable, soft carrying case.

Compared to the popular Viltrox VL-116T the FA-D10 is really small.

Equal amount of 3200K and 5600K emitters.

Power switch, brightness/CCT jog, USB-C charging port.

Long press of the power switch turns the light on and off. Short click selects between power and CCT adjustment. The jog wheel adjusts power 5% increments and CCT in 100K increments.

Handy tripod hole for attaching to almost anything. Also comes with a camera hotshoe adapter.

Output stays constant on all CCTs. The time remaining estimate reflects this.

At half power the estimate approximately doubles, makes sense.

CRI measurements at different CCT settings at full power. What can you say, light quality is really nice. These CRI measurements are at full power.

Distance was 0.85 meters so 361 lux equals 261 candela.

A slight rosy hue on the middle CCTs as expected.

Pretty much perfect as much as low CCT LEDs go.

Tint on different power levels at 3200K, 4500K and 5600K

Tint on different CCT settings at full power.

Charging from the USB port takes about 4 hours, but the CV phase is really long. You could probably yank it out after 2.5 hours and still have over 90% capacity.

I love the light and there’s only one thing that bothers me about it. The OLED screen is your typical cheap flickery type even if the LEDs themselves don’t flicker (at least visually, haven’t measured them).

Thanks for sharing your review!

Interesting. The photos on Amazon show its typical use.

Very nice. Thanks for reviewing this. Going to buy one

But I see your TURE colors
Shining through
I see your TURE colors
And that’s why I love you…

Thanks for the review. It seems like a improved version of the jetbeam.

Is the output flat on all power levels?

I haven’t done a runtime test yet.

Regulated output on max output at least. There was some airflow with a small fan during the runtime test. It would be a total fail for a photograhy light to not be flat in output.

Output:
3200K: 80-700 lumens
4500K 87-735 lumens
5600K: 90-800 lumens

With a runtime of 1 hour 21 minutes and a battery capacity estimate of around 9-9.5Wh (the light says 2470mAh*3.85V), this makes for a very efficient light for the CRI. Around 100 lumens/watt on the mixed 4500K mode and probably slightly less on either end of the CCT spectrum.

Runtime on minimum level

Do you mean the JetBeam FL-12 The Viltrox looks to be a good bit cheaper, if there’s no good discount available for the JetBeam.

With USB power, will this output constantly without any heat management issues?

I haven’t tried that, but the manual advises against charging and using at the same time

Finally ended up measuring the flicker. It’s non-existent with only very high frequency ripple.

I was all set to buy it… but it is not on US Amazon? :frowning:
