FW3A optics issues Announcement Carclo optics Arrive

Basically it sounds as though they are having a lens built to exactly match the Carclo. Like Neal said, some will be sent to various people to test before they are used in production. If they preform as good as the Carclo, great. :+1:

If they don’t, at least it is a fairly simple swap to a Carclo.

I’m ’thinking’ behind glass they will probably end up preforming about the same as the Carclo behind glass.

Works for me….

Is there any estimate of when the colored lights will be available? I must get a purple TK Special for my wife. Will the colored lights be available through Neal’s Gadgets like the current versions?

Mail is undeliverable to nealsgadgetsfw3a@hotmail.com. I was able to send it to his regular e-mail.

Just do nealgadgetsfw3a - the “s” isn’t in neals

PM sent.

Thanks for offering the glass so I will be able to use other Carcio optics I have.

So if I’m reading this correctly, those who have ordered the FW3C don’t need to do anything because Neal isn’t shipping those out until the 10511s arrive. Is this everyone else’s understanding?

@ Glennac

That is how I read it. :+1:

Thank you, Neal, for confronting this issue head-on and offering several options for everyone!

Well said. This really should be a satisfactory solution for everyone.

Well done, Neal.
Thanks for your hard work.

Can’t wait for the new optic you are going to design, will it be a “clone” of the original lens or should we design our own BLF optic?

Tritium optics available to ship
can ship with the FW3A order,

They look really cool!

Hi Neal — thanks for making this possible! Is the “blue” option actually “ice blue”? Because I don’t see any other blue option on the order page and the regular blue has a rather weak glow power (only 15), while ice blue is much more decent (60). Tritium Power Chart.

Looks nice. Do you plan to have 10511 tritium optics, too?

Hi all,

Just getting caught up here. I ordered another FW3A with sst-20 back on 6/13, if I do nothing will I get option B automatically?

The wait doesn’t bother me and I don’t really understand the optics well enough to know what I’d be getting or giving up with option A…

I like the idea of a very wide spot anyway, so I will be swapping the optic in the flashlight. That said, I’m not an expert modder, so unscrewing the bezel in a dust free environment is about the extent of my expertise.

A certain supplier of Carclo optics has the option on the 10508 optic for “Carclo XP-L Mod (not necesary for XPL-HI or Nichia 219) +$1.50” Anyone know if this will be necessary for SST-20 emitters?

No, this is not for the SST-20.

This is only needed to fit the larger dome of the xp-l.

Just to be sure. If you received your light as part of the original group buy then it already has the correct optic with glass lens installed?

If you have a glass lens and a TIR behind it, you have the “correct optic”.

The biggest issue with the optic they decided to substitute for the Carlco was that it was a one piece solution. It didn’t come with the glass lens, and you couldn’t just swap it out for a proper Carlco unless you had that glass lens (or a suitable replacement).

I only care because I may want to swap it out eventually, and I dislike proprietary parts/software/etc where there is no measurable benefit to using them (for me anyway).

EDIT:

I realize now that you are probably talking about a light that is as yet not delivered (so you can’t just check yourself) and wondering if you are going to receive the Carlco/glass combo… I can only speak for myself because I don’t know when the cutoff happened, but I received the glass/Carlco combo on my order (NW XPL) and I was a way down the list for getting the code.
