The user interface (Anduril) on this new model is vastly superior to the original. It will use ramping so you can set it at exactly the brightness level you need as opposed to preset levels which might be too dim or too bright on the older model. You can still have preset levels if you want and you can also adjust the number of levels you prefer. Plus it has adjustable thermal controls. You can set it to the max temperature of your choosing.
Remember that Brightness and Run Time are linked together. The more brightness the less run time and vice versa. This new model is capable of higher max output which means it heats up and drains the batteries faster. You can’t defy the laws of physics. On the other hand, you can choose the exact brightness level you want to give you extra run time.
For instance, let’s say you need about 3,000 lumen. With the older model you had to choose either 1550 lumen or 5100 lumen. The lower level is too dim so you have to use the 5100, but this reduces your run time. By setting the new model at 3000 lumen you do gain run time.
Are turbo runtimes improved on this light over the original? I know its all dependent on mass, so likely not. I like the light, just torn whether to mod my q8 for more lumens or grab this one.
Also remember that the original MF01 had a set thermal stepdown and you could not adjust it. This new one is adjustable so technically you could set the thermal limit super high and control it manually which may give more turbo runtime than the original even though the new light is much brighter.
