Astrolux A01

Nope. As they are now, I can give them away to non-flashaholics who probably won’t care about the issue. If I take a light apart I might muck it up so it doesn’t work at all or only on moon mode. I don’t have much confidence in my ability to work with very small parts.

If it were one I planned to keep, I’d try it just because. But that red one is losing memory quickly enough… I’ll keep that one!

Saw this light again recently at Banggood. Cheap but, at what price? The driver is a turd, and while the “pencil trick” can do away with the next mode memory (a ≈100KΩ resistor across its terminals is a better fix), it has PWM and strobe. It clearly is a flashlight for the rabble.

Also, what the @#$% is the emitter being used now? 5000K? WTF?

I do not think it is hard to design a good boost driver with a li-ion compatible “linear and resistor” mode of operation, after all the boost engine needs a sense resistor and a switch (MOSFET). The MCU would detect above 2V of input voltage and set the driver in linear mode. Sensing 1.5A in a 200mΩ resistor drops 0.3V, and whatever else excess voltage would be dropped at the MOSFET switch by tuning the gate voltage. Wow 1.5A mmm maybe too much heat LoL, 1A or a tad less maybe. And of course, 2.5 - 2.8V undervoltage warning and shut-off or thereabouts.

Cheers :-)

@barkuti, ah i thought its 4000k emitter in those ? i have on its way lol  for the price its hard to resist it…

Now that the Sofirn C01S exists I find little to no reason to get an A01.

As I said before, we could aim for a new design with a better driver. Now that I think of it, to handle 10440 li-ion well it should be a boost-buck unit, boosting for alkaline, Ni-MH and other low voltage cells and bucking in case of li-ion cell.

:-)

I wouldn’t swap my A01 for C01.

A01:

  • looks better
  • is available in copper
  • has a centered attachment hole
  • is cheaper (with the right discount)

That’s enough to prefer it over C01.
Granted, I’d prefer the smaller size and better LED of C01. But it’s ugly when standing and very ugly when hanging.

Agro: I thought the a01 in copper is long sold out ? actually the a01 is not that bad… i will use it on my keychain so for that its perfect…

I believe it appears from time to time.
I bought mine at a sale that looked like clearance (under $8 shipped) and saw it available much later.

u mean banggood? cant find it there…

Astrolux is a Banggood brand so it’s the best place to search their lights.
Indeed it doesn’t seem to be available. I tried clicking the link from my purchase - and it doesn’t work.

So it may indeed be gone for good. Or it may return some day…it’s hard to tell.

no problem, atleats normal version is available

I did buy quite a few A01s over the past years. Gave away many, EDC a copper one… But was very disappointed with the last batch where the Nichia emitter was gone (at least the tint was quite off) and the driver had PWM and NMM…

I’m still wondering how they are now? Last time i heard they where no better.
Did someone receive one recently?
Manker E01 is the only one now?

It was, but they keep screwing up the design with new “features”. I have a few of the original design. Fantastic light.

One really nice thing about the A01 is the overall shape and form factor. It lends itself very well to hanging around on a key ring all day. Having tried a bunch of different lights (and other gear) on my key ring over the years, I appreciate that.

I see it (A01) ships from 2 different places. Anyone know what or where GWTR is.

Astrofux from Bangbad. ;-)

GWTR is some sort of acronym for Bangbad's Chinese Global Warehouse. CN refers to another (Chinese) warehouse.

^:)

I’ve bought around 6 now. Coupla yrs till recent.
They a good basic keyring light for any pocket. I order the 5000.
Think it’s the best tint for MY old eyes.
Never had a bad sw, Springs, Anodising, O rings, anything.
Just a very nice (favourite) Cheap, small pocket torch.
Flicker?…78yrs, Don’t know, My eyes don’t see it.

I have half a doz others. Convoy Titanium. BLF 348. Singfire the same.
2 of each. Never come out of drawer. O’Light i3t Copper. Niiiice.
Jetbeam Jet 1 MK Pro x 2…, Very nice.

half a doz Penlight stainless. Clean edged ROUND beam.
inbuilt battery good for 25/30 min’s. $2.75 apiece del.
(can look it up). Can’t find record gone.
NOT Bangood or Gearbest. Probably That Prime. Company.
The first lot I gave away b4 realising how good.
Plastic lens collar better than metal lens collar models.

One…. So far has developed a dicky sw.
Have to push and hold for constant light.
Just have them hanging round the house door handles and shed
they have a hanging strap built into tail end.
Perfect for pick up and look in the dark.
Just reach for wardrobe or door handles instant light.
THEY are. The most useful. Used.
Practical torches in my household… Coupla yrs old now too.
98% of the others just sit around looking pretty.
Unless going outside.

Thank you

The old driver had 3 modes: a very low firefly, a low of less than 10 lumens (7?) and a high of a 102 lumen rating (a strobe mode was also present after the high one, but only accesible by cycling twice).

How is the newer Astrofux A0½ in this regard? I took the liberty to rename it for a better reflection of its current level of quality/commitment to the original design. :-D

:-)

Agreed. The C01S feels more secure in the hand, looks better, and works the way I expect. I actually like high-low versus low-high, so I’m happy with the Sofirns. The Astroluxes feel like a waste of money by comparison.

I just got my Fasttech 14 mm lens. It’s too large but barely, a couple of minutes of filing and it fits.
