I Bought EVERY Flashlight at Home Depot!

This is such a great video!

Is Lowe’s next?!

Oh, speaking of which, my LuxPro 4×AAA light also has one of those soft-touch e-switches in the tailcap. Can’t for the life of me undo the ring that’s around the pogo stick, but just bridging negative to the tube gives 100% brightness. “100%” through the switch still has some pwm “notches”, which is how it powers the tailcap’s driver.

You always gotta be VERY careful with series alkaleaks, else eventually they’ll for sure ruin the innards of the carrier and light itself if you let ’em. Easy to get 3×AAA carriers (long and short), but try getting a 4×AAA one.

The biggest selection of flashlights in the Portland OR area is at our local Frys electronics store. I took this photo about a year ago with the automatic pano function in my iPhone, the isle is actually straight.

Now this is content! Love the energy, keep up the good work!

Matt,

I can’t watch your videos without smiling a few times and always end up in a better mood.

Thanks for the great info and paying the good vibes forward.

Still my favorite lights i ever bought from HomeDepot is the Defiant Super Thrower. I have one extremely modded, and 5 stock ones. I may mod a couple of the stock DSTs to use for giveaways soon.

Watched the whole video, BRAVO!
Thanks for the effort and expense.

Some of the the Tractor supply store brand flashlights are decent too.
Jobsmart they are called.

Not next, but they are on my radar. Up next is a major sporting goods store.

Nice! I do have some family I would like to visit in Oregon

Thank you for mentioning it. There is a TS in Hollister, I had not heard they had a house brand. I will investigate.

Bet it starts with a C and ends with an S

Matt, a true Flashaholic

I have the $15 Rayovac 2aa “virtually indestructible” flashlight. I leave it in my car with lithium primaries in it. I’m disappointed that Matt didn’t even mention it, even though it is on the chart and measured higher than factory spec, I think it’s a pretty good light for $15 and pretty throwy for it’s size. Two modes, It starts in high, and has a forward clicky like most Coast lights. I like the plastic covered lights for leave in car use since it’ll most likely end up dropped or laid on asphalt or something that would scratch the ano of a Convoy or similar

A hacque, that’s how you bring up a hairball, right? :stuck_out_tongue:

I am so ruined by my so-much-better-than-those lights, they don’t even tempt me. It’s like waving instant coffee under my nose after months of drinking Starbucks. I’m, like :expressionless: :expressionless: :expressionless: But it’s a fun video.

Nah, the dreaded “15min Match-Mod”, then you can drop in a, well, a drop-in.

Makes a decent and clean-looking twisty.

The Milwaukee 2aa light is really a pretty decent work light and I have been working one hard since they arrived.
There is a rubber bite ring for mouth holding and just like the Mini Mag 2aa of olden days the fact that I can get a new one anytime I need to at a local HD is a petty huge feature too and one that most of our better lights can not match at all.

Milwaukee also has a few other Flashlights there that I didn’t see in the cart that are also good for the money for work and all have the more usable Warm Tint and are the only HD lights that all do.
The are Lifetime Warranty and do not need to be sent anywhere to get that done,I just go into HD and exchange a dead one for a new one, again a unique and valuable feature unmatched anywhere else really.

Very entertaining video vestureofblood! Disappointing to see the black holes from the Maglites. Personally I prefer the Milwaukee inspection light over the Husky, but the Husky is unique with its precision beam. Now what are you going to do with all these flashlights?

I have one of those, You take part of the head off and it becomes a Super Flooder. I’d love to see the mods you did for it.

Thanks much for doing this!

A few random thoughts on some of these lights:

Defiant 3C, OK light only if you get a deal on it, I think I got mine for $7 a few years back when they where clearing them out after black Friday and I don’t think it’s worth anymore than that. I run it on a 18650 in an adapter I 3D printed. Not all that impressed with this light, not water resistant at all, cheap construction and I would much prefer a side switch. I hate having to cycle through the blinky mode to shut it off.

C and D cell Huskys – a step up in build quality from defiant, but way too heavy and the tail switches very awkward to use. Some of the Huskys cost almost as much as some of the Mags but Mags are much nicer than Husky.

Coast lights – look good but poorly made, poorly designed and high priced for what you get. Battery carriers don’t look like they are built to last and for zoomys, they don’t throw all that far.

The yellow $5 2/4 D cell Eveready flex lantern – works on fresh batteries, but when the Voltage drops a bit it gets super dim – this is another direct drive 2 cell light from Eveready. The old Eveready 50 lumen 6V LED lantern that HD used to sell was better.

The cheap 1D Evereadys are OK for the price but they are not water resistant and are not built to last, their claim to fame is that they will run on batteries too dead to work in anything else (they will also run on C cells).

Rayovac 6 AA spot light – OK for what it is, but feels clumsy and top heavy (it has a big internal heat sink). The trigger reminds me of a squirt gun. Doesn’t seem to throw any further than the Mag ML300 and costs the same – I would definitely go with the ML300.

Rayovac 300 lumen 2AA Indestructible – great light for $15. Only wish the it had a lower low mode like on the old 100 lumen version of this light.

Maglites – I think you missed the 100 lumen 2 AAA Mini Mag (it was on the bottom of the end cap shown @ 1:50 in the vid). I have the older 98 lumen version and I prefer this to the 2 AA Mini Mag LED Pro which has a spill that is too small and too bright for a single mode light – the 2 AAA has a bigger spill that is not too bright.

The 3C ML25 twisty might be the best buy of all the lights at HD – great light with a nice throwy hot spot for distance and a huge spill for up close. I run mine on a 18650 in a 3D printed adapter or AA Eneloops in an adapter sleeve.

The LED Solitaire is also a great value at $10.

The ones I would recommend: the Rayovac 2 AA Indestructible and any of the Mags, except for the 3 AAA XL50 and maybe the 2 AA Pro (the 2 mode Pro Plus is better but HD doesn’t sell the Plus).

I gave my husky that Nichia !

Apparently Fry’s isn’t doing so well lately… rumors are they’re circling the drain, and will be potentially closing their doors this year.

Too bad. I liked that store a lot back when I lived in IL.

Might have a good clearance sale?!
