MF01S is pretty much a whole new design.

“Pretty much a whole new design” or not the original MF01’s existence lessened workload for the MF01S, things like tail cap / battery contact issues were already figured out in the MF01 design, basic threaded interfaces were figured out. Battery fitment is known (remember the E07/PL47 battery sizing issues?) These things must all be new on the mini.
Similar principals in the automotive world (what I’m familiar with), e.g. the fact that drum brakes still exist on brand new for 2020 vehicle designs.
MF01S is definitely one of the biggest project for first half of 2019. Mini can wait.

According to Freeme’s own website the price is $68, I am hoping that is not the GB price.

Mini discount price has not been announced, AFAIK. You have to learn to not assume things and just be patient. 
I’d bet that the group buy price will be somewhere near the price of an Emisar D4S or a Fireflies E07.
I hope that it will be heavier that the other lights around 200g or a bit more.
