Table of tested chargers, comments?

I do not have time for that at the moment.

Why did you not add to the table ISDT N8?

I did add it, but I forgot to upload the new page, making it rather difficult to see

It is fixed now.

Thank you, waiting for the test Xtar VC4S!

Coming soon.

:+1:

Are the new Liitokala Lii-500S also queued up for testing?
How about the “upgraded” Miboxer C4-12 (v2) ?

500S is planned, but the first one I got died during the first charge and I have not received another one yet.
I do not have any plans for the Miboxer.

this is great data, thanks for all the reviews, graphs and this table.

Hi HKJ,

I have been trying to find a NiMh D cell smart charger. Chargers that will take 4 D cells for charging seem to be fairly rare. I have a couple of obsolete units made for NiCad; so no good.

I bought a bunch of D cell NiMh cells. I bought a couple of chargers from Soshine (the battery manufacturer). They charge NiMh, but have really stupid interface and no detectable (to me) smart properties. When charging they have little barometers (they look like barrels). They constantly have bars running rapidly up and down for each battery. Annoying and mostly information free. You could try interpreting state of charge from the little bars, but with any real information. It is on or off.

There are no actual values anywhere. And the batteries get quite hot toward the end. I am not sure they even stop charging when the little barrels are full. And if you are just standing in front of the charger you can not even see what the barrels are doing. You have to bend over to see.

This is the best I could find.

Can you (or anyone) point out a decent smart D cell charger that actually has controls and useful information. Preferably able to do 4 cells at a time.

Something like this and connected to the Opus (for example) BT-C3100 will I believe work, though I have tried it yet.

On the other hand, I have in the house a Xtar 2-bay charger that can handle 2xD cells, I can’t remember the model, I’ll check it later today when I’m home.

My charger index has a table with NiMH D cell capable chargers:
https://lygte-info.dk/info/roundCellChargerIndex%20CD%20UK.html

I do not test D cells, but look for chargers that can deliver at least 1A

Note: NiMH cells will always get hot at the end when using -dv/dt termination. You can see that on the temperature curve I include in most NiMH tests.

Thanks. The heat thing helps.

I have not found a smart charger that appears to have enough space to insert 2 or preferably 4 D cells. That was why I got the Soshine charger.

Right now I am sitting here listening to the house smoke alarms. Hoping that they eventually get tired of the whole thing. It has been running for more than an hour so far. No way to turn them off. AC powered, but with lithium batteries. All daisy chained.

My best guess is that a Plant from Hell has emitted enough extremely powerful perfume in a room to poison the sensors. I moved it away from sensors. Nada so far.

I need to readdress my smoke detector system. It really needs to be able to be muted.

No one actually will care about my smoke alarms. I just rambled on while sitting here with an unused keyboard. And thinking about trying to get some sleep.

Here is the Xtar charger:

Great table, many thanks

I think this was mentioned before: Maha MH-C808M

It will do 8x AAA>D, though I think it’s not such a good match for AAA. Expensive, does not do ‘tricks’, but simply works. Been using one primarily for AA, C, and D for over a decade. I used to use it a LOT for D cells when my wife and I were diving with 4xD lights, so I needed to do 8 cells at a time every week. I still use it routinely. The only thing that ever happened is one bay got so it would not make contact with AA. The bay still worked for C and D. Thomas Distributing replaced it under warranty, and it was several years old.

Here’s an old review from CPF by [Silverfox]. He tested a lot of chargers and this one came out as one of the best.

I have a spare smart charger I don’t use. I am going to get 4 battery holders and solder some wires. Problem solved.

Thanks for the responses.

[Table of tested chargers] is not coming up for me; Firefox or Edge browser. Refresh multiple times did not help.

I may be due to a change in policy on the forum. I have added a link to the original table.

Why have you not tested any chargers for such a long time?

1 Thank

Yes. I’m wondering why there haven’t been any further charger tests done since 2020!

We could really use more up to date charger test reviews!

If HKJ is no longer doing charger tests/reviews. Why? Are there alternative sites that have tests/reviews on (up to date) chargers? If so, where?

3 Thanks
