【New Update】Why do you choose Type-C Port?

Update date: 23/04/2020

In the early years, when Android smartphones became popular, almost all charging interfaces of Android phones used Micro USB interface.

However, new mobile phones in recent years have begun to abandon the Micro USB interface and chose to use the Type-C interface. So, why now all mobile phones are suddenly replaced with Type-C interfaces?

What is the reason? What is the difference between Mirco USB and Type-C?

Micro USB charging port

Mirco USB is an upgrade of the previous Mini USB. Early electronic products basically adopted this interface. The interface is a trapezoidal interface with a width and a narrow width. Because the upper and lower widths of the interface are different, it is easier to cause a problem of which side is up.

Type-C charging port

Type-C can be said to be an upgraded replacement for Mirco USB. Its interface can be inserted on both sides. Its appearance officially solves the worldwide problem of “USB will never be inserted correctly.” It can be inserted on both sides. , Type-C also has the characteristics of positive and negative complete insertion, fast transmission speed, and so on.

The difference between Mirco USB and Type-C port

1 development path

From the development process, the C interface standard began to be recognized in 2015. In 2015, Apple applied the Type-C interface to the MacBook. In 2016, the Type-C interface began to prevail, and major flagship phones began to match the Type-C interface, giving up the commonly used Micro USB interface.

2 Shape design

In appearance, Mirco USB is narrower than the Type-C interface, but it has a heavy sense of overlap. Although Type-C is relatively wide, it is relatively thin and light.

3 Direction design

In the direction design, the Type-C interface has no positive and negative directions, and both positive and negative can be inserted. There are positive and negative directions of micro USB, and the influence of the serial cable itself, when inserted in the wrong direction, is also easy to damage the mobile phone interface.

04 Transfer speed

In terms of transmission speed, the specifications of micro USB limit the output of the highest voltage, and there are limitations in charging technology. The Type-C interface solves the problem of port voltage limitation, and the maximum output power increases significantly. The charging speed is reduced, the maximum speed can reach 10Gbps!

In this way, it is obvious that the Type-C interface is more practical and more fun. It can be said that it is the first choice for digital enthusiasts and technical friends! It is not an exaggeration to call it the king of the future data line market ~

Following the needs of the general public, XTAR also replaces the Type-C port on the charger interface. Among them, the most obvious is the upgraded version of MC4S and PB2C

In the end…

If you have the opportunity to use a USB C device, go for it. You’ll get faster speeds, a more satisfying experience, and it’s just easier to use.
Just be sure to check whether you have the right cables so your device takes full advantage of all the C awesomeness.

When looking for tactical flashlights, I set some criteria on them. That helps me save time and have a clear purpose in mind. For example: Runs on 18650 batteries. That is a must for flashlight users, some of my users friends may use the rechargeable flashlight with USB port, however, if you are a fan of outdoor camping, your best option is the insert battery flashlight. The results are whatever brand you use,
like: SureFire ,Fenix, Anker, Klarus , ThruNite , Maglite…You will have to come out with the 18650 battery for flashlight, and a charger.

But what is the best 18650 battery charger for you? I suppose it can be the XTAR ST2, why is that, we know that when choosing the suitable flashlight, it should be at least 500 lumens and long runtime, ST2 provides a unique experience of charging 2 Li-ion batteries separately and performs a maximum output of 4,100mA in 2-slot. It only takes 30 minutes to fully charged of a 2000mAh battery. So the quick charge powerful ST2 charger, you will be free worry of the flashlight long runtime and higher lumens.

You will also concern about the flashlight must be waterproof, unless it will be harmful for the battery insert as well as flashlight, The XTAR ST2 charger contain Multiple protections ensure safe charging, built-in protection system can effectively prevent anti-short circuiting and reverse polarity protection, overtime charging protection, supplying your flashlight with continuous battery power.

Taking these into account, XTAR ST2 charger prove to be your best friend for your flashlight and 18650 battery.
Hopefully, The ST2 is now available on xtar.cc now. Come in and have a look!

Looks nice, but the price is killing me…

I like the USB type-C, i like the design and i like the temp feature.
But i agree with 1stein, that price is a deterrent for me i can get a couple of 4 slot nitecores and have money left over for beer.

Well done on making a nice charger that i want though, good work.

I’m not seeing a price, how much is this selling for?

$49.99

Xtar ST2

Definitely a bit of a premium for the temperature sensing and USB-C. Hopefully the newer port drops in price as it becomes more mainstream.

Do we really need another thread on the exact same topic?

I guess XTAR didn’t like the criticism it received in that one. :expressionless:

Maybe Mr. Admin can merge this thread into the old one?

I agree that we don’t need a second thread about the same content.

I've never noticed Mr. Admin ever merging threads.

I think it's something he doesn't like to do, but I could be wrong.

Ehhh, you can go online and buy two of the discontinued VP2s, with car adapters, for way less than that and I own 12 Xtar chargers, so I’m a fan.

Chris

Does anyone know a car adapter that can supply 4A?

I have a DashCharge for my OnePlus phone which does 4A but I’m not sure it works with the ST2.
The only reason for me to buy this charger is to charge high speed in my car.

That have enough power for it

Looks great!
One DashCharge port would make it ideal

Are you a hiking, packing or photography enthusiast? Nowadays, outdoor shooting and outdoor adventures are becoming more and more popular. Many friends around me like these activities. For these enthusiasts, a variety of flashlights and charging equipment are necessary, such as spotlights, floodlights, handheld flashlights, headlights, camera chargers, gimbal chargers, mobile phone chargers, and so on.

As an outdoor enthusiast, I bought a lot of equipment, but the trouble also came. A bunch of equipment has a bunch of chargers. The brands and specifications are different, and the chargers are also various. They make my backpack so heavy. Although the power bank can directly charge mobile phones and other rechargeable devices, it cannot charge a single battery. Then, I found XTAR’s new product PB2C can solve the problem.

XTAR PB2C has both functions of battery charger and power bank.

As a power bank, PB2C can charge mobile phones and rechargeable flashlights, gimbals, electronic cigarettes, Bluetooth headsets and other devices. It uses Type-C input, so you never have to carry multiple different types of cables.
PB2C’s output is mainly supported by two 18650 batteries placed inside, so it has an interesting feature - DIY capacity. For flashlight users, two 2600mAh 18650 batteries are enough. If you need a large capacity, you can prepare a larger capacity battery, such as 5000mAh 18650. If there are more batteries at home, you can also bring a few more batteries for your equipment to provide long-term stable battery life.

As a battery charger, compared to other PB series products, the PB2C is newly upgraded. it can accommodate button/flat top batteries as well as protected/unprotected 18650 batteries of customized size with larger compartment size. Greater compatibility and wider scope of application. In addition, the PB2C has six safety protection system functions, such as intelligent anti-reverse connection, overcharge protection, output over-current / short circuit protection, and over-voltage / overload protection, which ensure the safety of users’ electricity during non-standard use.

The advantage of the 18650 battery is its versatility and its high-cost performance. Used laptop batteries, handheld stabilizer batteries, flashlights, drone batteries, etc. are all 18650 specifications, and even Tesla also uses 18650 batteries. The batteries eliminated from the equipment can continue to play the waste heat.

PB2C is equipped with patented XTAR charge-discharge balance technology, which can intelligently balance lithium batteries of different voltages, and the voltage level during charging and discharging. Prevents a single battery from overcharging or over-discharging, making the battery more durable.

0V activation of PB2C can save some over-discharged 18650 batteries. If you don’t go out often and forget to take out the batteries of the flashlight or gimbal. Basically these batteries are in the over-discharge state, so you may lose several batteries in one year. In addition, the batteries removed from the old equipment will cause over-discharge after long time storage.

PB2C’s dimension is 11cm (length) X5.1cm (width) X2.43cm (height). The compact size allows it to be carried in your pocket. It is convenient to carry whether you are traveling or hiking or exercising. You can replace the spare 18650 batteries to expand the capacity. The bare battery is smaller and more convenient to carry. The intimate design of the built-in ribbon makes the battery removal easier and more convenient.

In general, the XTAR PB2C charger is very practical and can efficiently use the 18650 batteries. It has a high usage rate whether it is traveling or daily use. It is one of the essential items for outdoor enthusiasts.

I would like to review it.

Also the old version with the 7 segment LED display (I loved the display showing charging-discharging current)

Would be nice for me to have both the old pb2S and this one to make a review of the new comparing with the old pb2S

Thanks

Thanks my friend. Everyone can review XTAR product.

Oh! Thank you!

Hello Xtar, with this review, should I stop charging NiMH batteries on the VC8S charger?

Hi my friend.

Yes, we have seen the test by HKJ, the 1st products did have this problem and we only got feedback from some of the users. We have feedback to engineers and now we have fixed this problem. Maybe later, we will re-send one to HKJ to check.

I have also noticed the same problem sporadically on my VC4s charger as well.
