[M4D deal] Convoy L21A / M21A groupbuy

Thank you!

Very tempting! Any chance of including the M21A host?

Has anyone done a review on the m21a? Also, I’m curious to know what the throw is.

I’ll probably take an L21A later this month… But just to mod it to a white flat.

Ok, received the L21a today and the shockli cells do NOT fit the L21a !
Drat, now i have two brand new cells which do not fit and have no use for.

It seems the diameter of the cells is too large. With my caliper i measured the inner diameter of the tube which is 21,5 mm.
The shockli cells have a diameter of 21,7 mm.

Will it help if you remove the wrapping?

Maybe, but i do not like to have a bare cell in my light, unless i would be sure there is another wrap underneath it, but it does not look like that’s the fact

I personally don’t mind bare cells. But it’s a pity that they might not fit. I also don’t mind losing 200mAh for a genuine 21700 cell as I’m using in my 21700 Convoy lights. But damn, I almost bought Vapcell “21700” cells that apparently has the same problem.

Mine shipped out finally! Thanks for the code. I’ve got two brand new 21700’s sitting here charged and waiting.

Also, what is white flat? I’m assuming a particular LED, but I don’t know which.

I see, so more throw then. Are we talking a pencil beam just good for showing off, or still a usable search beam?

I’ve got another LED question. Do any of you know of any good throw LEDs that are more around 5000K? I see Acebeam I think it is got some SST-40s that are, but I can’t find them. I just don’t know anything about thrower LEDs, so not sure what to look at.

Yep, i bought some
I upgraded my c8 with the 1mm and i got over 200kCd!
I bought the 2mm for my L21a, but need to buy new cells first since the brand new shockli cells i bought dont fit.

In a C8 it’s a very good mid to long range beam. Usable spill… In a L2 it starts to become a pencil beam.

I will see what I think of the throw and beam. That looks like an interesting LED. I really would just like something warmer.

You guys had me worried for a moment about the cell diameter, but I just measured my Samsungs and they are about 20.7-20.8.

Would you be able to get some before and after beam shots at a decent range for me? I’d like to see what the beams look like. I keep seeing about how the white is more white with less green or other nasty tint shifts with the flat white. Which does sound appealing. Did you buy yours already on a PCB or are you reflowing?

I bought the LED already on MCPCB, since i have never reflowed a led, maybe i should just try it and become familiar with it.

The beam is CW and throws very well just with the standard driver (2,8A)
Centering the LED is key, but it took me quite some time and several attemts to get it right.

You will get a lower Lumen output compared with XPL hi, but way more focused, which gives you that enormous throw for such a small light.

It’s my understanding this particular LED is hard to reflow, not a good one to start with.

Thanks for the feedback. I assumed it was CW, is the color any better than the SST-40? What size will I need for this light if I decide to try it?

If you guys want a NW throwy LED, try the SST-20 5000k 70CRI.

I had considered that, but I wasn’t sure how it compares to the SST-40. So I am doing research now that you put the idea in my head. From what I see so far the 20 is comparable to/better than and XPL HI which I believe was popular in the last gen of throwers right? So it may be plenty sufficient.

The SST20 performs slightly better then XPL-HI, but personally i don’t like the tint, i have put one 5000K in a BLF A6 and i cant remember exactly why, but the tint is off (blueish, greenish ?)
possibly the OSRAM KW CSLPM1.TG - 2mm2 throw king will be way better, i’ll try that soon
