I see, so more throw then. Are we talking a pencil beam just good for showing off, or still a usable search beam?
I’ve got another LED question. Do any of you know of any good throw LEDs that are more around 5000K? I see Acebeam I think it is got some SST-40s that are, but I can’t find them. I just don’t know anything about thrower LEDs, so not sure what to look at.
Yep, i bought some
I upgraded my c8 with the 1mm and i got over 200kCd!
I bought the 2mm for my L21a, but need to buy new cells first since the brand new shockli cells i bought dont fit.
Would you be able to get some before and after beam shots at a decent range for me? I’d like to see what the beams look like. I keep seeing about how the white is more white with less green or other nasty tint shifts with the flat white. Which does sound appealing. Did you buy yours already on a PCB or are you reflowing?
I bought the LED already on MCPCB, since i have never reflowed a led, maybe i should just try it and become familiar with it.
The beam is CW and throws very well just with the standard driver (2,8A)
Centering the LED is key, but it took me quite some time and several attemts to get it right.
You will get a lower Lumen output compared with XPL hi, but way more focused, which gives you that enormous throw for such a small light.
I had considered that, but I wasn’t sure how it compares to the SST-40. So I am doing research now that you put the idea in my head. From what I see so far the 20 is comparable to/better than and XPL HI which I believe was popular in the last gen of throwers right? So it may be plenty sufficient.
The SST20 performs slightly better then XPL-HI, but personally i don’t like the tint, i have put one 5000K in a BLF A6 and i cant remember exactly why, but the tint is off (blueish, greenish ?)
possibly the OSRAM KW CSLPM1.TG - 2mm2 throw king will be way better, i’ll try that soon
Just found this video with an L2 using a wf1 (this would be the 1mm2 one right?). I actually don’t mind the color considering it is 6500k. It’s not overly blue like I am used to, actually it doesn’t seem blue at all.
So if we were to use the 2mm2 wf that should give more output and a slightly larger hotspot right? Plus the L21A has more amps than a regular L2. This thing should be a beast with this LED. I am going to order one from LED4Power.
The m21a finally arrived. Is it normal to not come with extra o rings or even a small fold up manual? This is my first convoy and I’m not familiar with the ui at all. As far as I can tell it’s just low, medium, high, turbo. No double click to go straight into turbo, no strobe. I just want to make sure I’m not missing it if it’s there. I can do without the spare o rings but a manual would have been nice. I don’t even know the lumen output of each setting.
Are you referring to the L2 then? The L21A has a 6A driver and SST-40. Which BTW, mine arrived today! Quite the little beast, it is really cool. I’m considering getting the WF for mine, I will play with it a little first.
Did some quick n dirty beamshots tonight with my NW FT03, CW L21a and C8 with white flat 1mm².
The distance to the trees is about 200m
What i noticed, the FT03 gets hot very quick, i blame it to the thin and light design, whereas the L21 performs way better heatwise.
Some quick n dirty beamshots;

FT03 (L) vs L21A ®
C8 with OSRAM KW CSLNM1.TG (2,8A)
Have to do some more in depth testing and measuring, but however the L21A runs on ‘just’ 6A, visually they look even bright. Did not test until stepdown though.
The hotspot and spill on the L21A is pretty awesome. You’ve got me excited. The cooling as you mentioned is a big reason why I chose this light over the FT03. It should be able to maintain higher output longer.
