FW3A optics issues Announcement Carclo optics Arrive

Hey Neal,

Have tried to msg you about my order and still have not yet received any response or shipping info. Please if you could get back to me that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

And if you want better grip but not that aggressive a tactical one, a nice thick o-ring does the job well. At first I wasn’t sure if the one I installed on mine would make much of a difference since I already put on a segment of rubber inner tube. But I’m finding overall it has improved grip and I never worry about a slip. No pun intended.

wow, copper looks amazing.
also good to hear the lens situation is clear

I had a regular shipment go out on July 3. How long should I expect it to take to get to the USA? I imagine maybe 14 days?

I ALSO did not get a glass lens. Which makes me think Neal sent me one with the Carclo optics.

My experience has been more like three to four weeks.

Easy to check… just take the front bezel off carefully and see if it is two pieces or one.

Two! Glass, then the optic. :+1:

Nice! Maybe my incoming FW3C will also have the Carlco.

I should’ve said this earlier Neal, but thanks a lot for your honesty!

Thanks!

Looks like it made it to North Carolina on the 17th! Exciting!

Subscribing for future updates.
I’d apreciate if long quotes are reduced a bit.

Can anyone tell just by looking what optic I got? Also, why is my aluminum blue? Every photo I’ve seen of it shows it as gray. I ordered this thing June 13th. Finally got it today. Bit anticlimactic after all this time. Thanks.

Looks like the plastic all in one to me. Not the Carclo with the separate glass lens. As far as the color, my two are a blue/grey (similar to the S2+ grey). It just depends on the lighting on which color stands out more.

I agree with nobody. The color looks right, and it appears to be the 2nd generation optic. You can remove the bezel and check for a glass lens to be sure.

Thanks. By remove bezel, do you mean open the battery compartment and twist out the circuit with some kind of wrench to get to the optic? No wrench here… Don’t see any other way in.

If it is the all plastic 2nd gen, what the heck did I wait a month and a half for? When I ordered the light, there was no message posted about waiting/cancelling/etc. It wasn’t until a couple of weeks later when I went back to track my order that I saw the optic announcement. I was under the impression after reading the announcement that if I didn’t say cancel or ship now, I’d get the glass lens and correct optic.

No need for a tool. Just grab the knurling on the head with one hand and the smooth part at the very end of the head with the other and give it a twist. The pieces meet up so nicely, I didn’t even know the head was two pieces.

The “bezel” is located on the bright end of the flashlight, between the knurling (textured bit for grip) and the very edge. If you hold the knurling and rotate the smooth portion (on the bright end) counter clockwise, it should unscrew. if you have a plastic optic and a glass lens (in two pieces) then you have the original Carlco 10511 and the glass lens.

Alternatively, you could just use a clean finger and touch the lens/optic and see if it is glass or plastic.

This only matters if you want to switch from the newer style “not carlco” optic to a different optic because the newer style is one piece and you won’t have the lens in front of the optic for waterproofing. If you do not intend to swap the optic for a different style (narrow spot clear, elliptical, etc), it doesn’t really make a difference for day to day usage.

Thanks. Well now I’m pissed. It’s definitely one piece of plastic. No glass. What the hell took 1.5 months to get to me?

Yeah, the head is actually two pieces. The bezel is at the far front, and if it is tight it can look like only one piece, but it’s actually two. Be careful not to spin the optic when you are screwing the bezel on or off.
