I’m going to be on vacation 7/26 - 8/4 so the next update will be this coming Thursday night or Friday morning. I’ll update the lists sometime 8/5 after I get back. I expect that there will be many sign-ups during this period
Hey guys, quick question for you all. Apologies if this isn’t the right place to ask, but I figured I would try.
After going through a recent power outage, I realized that I was woefully under-prepared in the lighting department (as the only real light I had besides my iPhone was a motion-activated nightlight and a diminutive headlamp). Hence I found r/flashlights on Reddit and eventually the BLF Q8 flashlight. I ordered one of them on Amazon, and then found this post and loved it / put my name on the list for a LT1.
So, now for the question. Seeing as I really want an LT1, do you guys recommend sticking with the Q8 as well or should I get a different non-lantern light so that I have something different? This is mostly just used in power outage situations or some light camping use (I know that the Q8 is a little overkill for that anyway, but figured I might as well get a quality product). I just feel like maybe the Q8 and the LT1 are too similar and I would potentially benefit by having some differentiation? Or I might be overthinking this all.
This might be a dumb question but apologies I didn’t go through the entire forum, can you take the diffuser off the LT1 to turn it into a “pseudo-Q8” or is the top permanently fixed on (I would think so).
Any thoughts would be really welcome.
Edit: would something like the Sofirn C8F that is on sale on Amazon for $25 do anything different aside from being cheaper?
I’ve been AFK on a camping trip for 2 weeks but wanted to comment on this. I camp with a cargo trailer (no inside wiring) so I used my Q8 and my Streamlight Siege lantern for illumination. The Q8 as a ceiling-bounce light was actually the mainstay for me. Anyone who wants a light for power outages or anything within a room or a trailer should consider having a Q8 for ceiling bounce; the light is so glare-free. But for lighting up a tent (fabric doesn’t bounce light very well) or an outdoor area in a non-directional manner, hanging up a lantern will win the night.
BTW, when I went to bed each night I’d ramp my Q8 down to lowest output and set it upside-down next to the bed area. Instead of an annoying green glare from the switch, I had an extremely faint glow peeking out from the crenelations. When (not if) I had to get up in the middle of the night to use the porta-pot, I simply turned the Q8 upright and had just the right amount of light off the ceiling for my night-adjusted eyes.
So in other words, maxacarp, I recommend that you get a Q8 as soon as possible! Mine has proven itself to be extremely useful.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program: As the LT1 World Turns. :confounded:
I’m interested in one as well.
Definitely interested in 2 please.
Happy Birthday, DBSAR!
… how about some sort of tissue sock/sleeve you pull on the lantern? Part of it could be a fishnet like transparent section …
fishnet like transparent section, on the lamp? sort of a sock?
I’m interested in one assuming shipping to the UK won’t cost the earth.
Could I be added to the list for one (1) LT1? Thanks!
Shipping is an other interesting question. Do we have to order it from China or is Sofirn going to sell it on Amazon like their other flashlights?

For sure it’ll come from China initially. Probably be quite a while before it’s stateside on Amazon.
thank you!
In for 1 please
In for 1!
I’m in for 1 already. Please put me down for 3 more for a total of 4.
Great! Put me down for two….
I’m in for 1.
I’m in for 2
I would like to add another to my order please thanks so I want two.

Please forgve a TL/DR question. Will the lantern have a USB output to work as a cell phone recharger? And is there a recommended solar panel to charge it?

This first LT1 model will not have a power bank option for charging phones, but as for solar panels i have tested & use, the Eceen 10-Watt folding panel from Amazon for 40 bucks is my favorite off-grid / emergency USB solar charger that charges the LT1 quite well.
