Ugh. Link shows 8CR13Mov steel. In a titanium handle?? What were they thinking? The most expensive production handle material with one of the cheapest, least edge-retaining production steels. Well, maker, please remember the blade is the functional part.
Thanks for sharing, anyway. I’ve pretty much settled (for now) on the Ruike P801. Sandvik 14C28N is a fair steel, too. I know it’s a Sebenza knock-off, but it gets a shining review from knifeinformer.
Well, i can only advise against this seller: few months ago he was selling the same knives but with good quality blades ( cts-xhp, D2 ), well they were described like this, but the steel was not right.
Luvthemknives tested the SKIKE and the HRC was ridiculously low and the steel was very low quality:
After seeing that, i tried getting my money back, the seller told me the same story about his brother cheating on him with fake steels and then he just closed his aliexpress shop !
This is his comeback from the dead !
Quality of his knives is not bad, but not great either, not very functionnal with a so so finish ( lockbar travels a bit too far ! )
Don’t buy from this scammer, or for a very low price.
8CR in a Ti handle: Aliexpress is full of knives like this, only they claim some higher end steel. Probably this manufacturer got caught scamming previously and decided to tell the truth about his steels…
Good to know that the blade is 8Cr13Mov. The steel is equivalent to AUS 8 or 440C so it is OK with me. With proper heat treating, it can go up to ~60 HRC.
I realize when buying a clone from Ali and that the steels is questionable so no biggy for me. I like the simplicity of the sheep foot design and have original Benchmades, ZT, Spydies and custom knives in my collection.
Calling the Sanrenmu 910 and 810 series Sebenza knock-offs is legit.
Why do you think the P801 could be called that? Because of the frame lock? There’s no genuine Sebenza flipper anyways.
You should take that HRC measurment with a grain of salt. They also tested Lionsteel’s M390 around 49 - 51 HRC than they had to apologize after they realized they screwed it up.
You should also notify Spyderco about that because they use the same combination at the Byrd Meadowlark 2 Titanium and at the Cara Cara 2 Titanium for example.
The only Spyderco I own is the Cricket (VG-10). It serves as a money clip.
I just took possession of a modified Buck Vantage. It has the Avid Select (346) Dymondwood handle with the Force Select (845) blade (black oxide coated BOS 420HC). I nabbed it on the ’bay for a hair over $20. Now, to add a spot for one of my custom lanyards after the tune-up kit gets here from Buck…
I have one of those Kershaw Launch 2 clones. The fit & finish is excellent, the opening action is strong & snappy. The release button / button lock works nicely although it has a very slight vertical blade play. It’s on sale here for $23.06 with $2 store coupon at the moment.
