Haha, these silly scammers. The password that the scammer quoted - is actually one I used many years ago - but haven't used for years. And I have no web cam on my computer.
You should tell them they’re in luck, you’re a Nigerian prince and you have 10,000 bitcoin in a locked wallet you’re ready to send to them but in order to get the wallet unlocked, they need to wire you $5,000.
I had this exact email (the wording wasn’t quite the same) and it did indeed have a password I used many years ago. It came from a database breach a few years back. For someone like me reading this email is pretty hilarious, but for less technically inclined people it could be pretty terrifying, especially because it potentially contains an actual password.
It got resent to me 3 or 4 times but I guess they got bored. Surprised me when I got it as I’ve managed to keep my accounts & email pretty secure so far, I very rarely get spam that googles filter lets through.
Reminds me of when I worked in construction. A guy asked me one day if I had any naked pictures of my wife. When I told him “no” he said “Do you want one?”
I received the exact e-mail a couple of months ago with a password i used to use a long time ago, but used it for quite some time.
At first i thought wtf? But then i realized it must be a scam and after searching online i saw people with the same exact text.
Turns out they used a hacked database in my case from Adobe, from years ago.
There is a site haveibeenpowned.com to check whether or not your password has been compromised.
I checked it and some very obscure email addresses I have used occasionally turned up a few times. Doesn’t mean password breach… just means like an email database for a forum was hacked. They might have your forum password, but not your email password.
My main gmail.com account turned up 7 times, which I thought a bit high. I changed my password earlier this year and just changed it again. A bunch of other email accounts I use for different forums came up 2 or 3 times in the list. Again… I don’t think any PW was breached on the email accounts, only a possibility for the forum ID.
