OSRAM CSLNM1.TG & CULNM1.TG 1mm², CSLPM1.TG & CULPM1.TG 2mm²

I built L21A with the CULNM1.TG led and had some interesting results in a somewhat bad way.

So far in my limited experience with small die leds most of them if not all (black flat being the worst) required the reflector to sit like crazy low, even sometimes it was required to file the reflector in order to focus the leds properly. Today when i finished the L21A build i took one of the normal xp Convoy gasket and reamed it to 5.5mm to fit the CULNM1.TG led and on my surprise after few different gaskets and heights i somehow think that even the stock height of the gasket seems too low for this led.

Has anyone built L2/L21A with this led and can help me figure out how to focus this led properly, the beam is horrible, small bright hotspot with huge fairly bright corona and some rings of course.

Measured intensity was 385.000cd, i think this is a bit low.

Gasket height about 0.5mm

BobbyMK, maybe try this method: Flashlight collimation

Focusing required me a lot of trial and error, but finally in my C8 it is (almost) perfect and now i have a clean thin beam doing over 200 kCd in a C8 on 2,8 A.
I think it should be able to do more, but then i have to file down my reflector and bezel, something which i don’t feel like doing it. Maybe later

Might try this when ill find time to test and actually read everything there.

I also have C8 with the 1mm², highest ive seen was 214kcd and i am almost 100% sure that it does not need any modifications on the host in order to be properly focused, this flashlight has one of the cleanest beams ive ever had in a modified thrower. With that said i do not know how you all get these numbers, 200kcd @ 2.8A is insanely good, throw some more amps at that led… it begs you lol

After this and this post, I put the 2 flashlights (Convoy S2 and Acbeam TK16) under the same conditions (same night, same specs on the camera). Here are the comparative beamshots (TK16 left, S2 right):

198m (Farthest trees)

208m (House)

310m (white factory)

If you have a link for 4040 my second CULNM1 and my Luxeon Vs will thank you kindly. And my fingertips. Reaming 3535 a centering ring hurt my fingertips.

I found that using a 5.5mm drill bit works perfectly fine and no fingers will be hurt during the process. It usually takes me 2-3 min by hand to drill the normal xp convoy gaskets.

Sorry, i have not seen any 4040 gasket.

Wait, so TIR optics have larger spill compared to reflector on s2 ? is it because optics are tiny 10mm or something else ?
because i’ve ordered 20mm optics (10199) to use with this osram led and i want almost 0 spill to decrease glare. did i made a wrong choice ?

Please note that this is a TRIPLE TIR (carclo 10507) not a single led TIR! It has 3 White Flat leds below it so the beam will be wider than the S2 (1 White Flat + Smooth reflector)!
About your choice, I am not sure because I don’t know that optic. Also, once it is a TIR (Total Internal Reflection) I am not sure if you will be able to get 0 spill on it! But please report when you have it!

Also, please note that the Acebeam has a very that hotspot but then it has “rings” around it! So the spill is still there but it is not so much delineated.
See them here:
Convoy S2 (Left) vs Acebeam TK16 (Right)

Yes, that’s what i thought after posting that as well, since it’s 3x10mm optics beam will be wider than single 20mm optic such as carclo 10199.
since you own both lights, maybe you can answer this - s2 vs tk16, which one has more glare if it’s switched on towards year direction but not pointed at your eyes straight ? i believe s2 should have more glare because reflector.

thing is i’m trying to modify my motorcycle auxiliary spot lights, to reduce glare for incoming traffic. so far i have tried replacing stock xml2s to CSLNM1, it did increase throw and reduced glare tiny bit, but leds got burned within 2-3 hrs because low clearance between reflector and led mcpcb short the wires. so now i’m trying to replace reflector with 20mm tir optics. with CSLNM1. hopefully it will work better.

thanks

Here is a comparison for the TK16 Osram edition (L) vs a Jaxman E2L with triple nichia 219c 4000K ® (both lights use the same Carclo 10507 optics)

And here is a comparison for the TK16 (L) vs a Convoy S2+ XPL-HI with SMO reflector and 4B tint ®

Which is left and which is right? With such overexposure on the left beam it is difficult to judge the beam shape.

Edit: I think I get it, I was distracted by the direct reflections by the shiny garage door.

And maybe a bit of luck. I put a white flat in a C8 and the results were almost perfect. Almost
Though I did make some mistakes along the way and a lot of thing could have been done better.
So I bought a set of identical or better parts, treated those with utmost care, and tried to build a perfect one.
To make a long story short: despite my efforts, whatever I tried, it did not even come close to the first light.

Lights are like dogs, treat them well and with respect, because you might never find another one like the first.

Guys, Simon is selling 3030 gaskets !

can we reflow CSLNM1.TG on a mcpcb which is designed for black flat ? is there any issues with thermal pad being cathode, since white flat has isolated thermal pad ?

I need to report that i’ve placed CSLPM1.TG 2mm in GT mini using L4P 20mm 3030MCPCB.
I had protected 18650 nearby so i throw it in and ran the sucker. After few reflector adjustments beam was ok.
And now cute part, finally found IMR 18650 and replaced the protected cell but now ramping to HI is much much brighter. And then double click for Turbo showed angry blue!
Was a bit surprised cause some modders are running it hard in GT mini and i have to use protected cell 8/

Didn’t meassure amps on the tail cause of lack of time but i was curious did anyone else also got the same results and at which amps?

I’m not surprised, the PM1 has an extremely low Vf, lower than anything else (see the OP of this thread) so it will pull every bit of current a battery can provide. You depend on resistances in the system (internal battery resitance, springs, ledwires, FET) to keep the current restrained.

Thx djozz. I was too lazy to read all the way up but initial look at the first posts revealed what you just said. Will have to use it with protected only which is not bad since they are picking up dust these days.
