Hello guys, good afternoon

I bought a UGREEN charger and a USB cable several days ago, and today I got them, so I decide to make a video, I will test the performance and see if it can match the technical parameters. Before we open it, we can have a look at this two products

Charger first. From the front side, we can the brand “UGREEN”, charger icon, and three protection function: over current protection/short circuit protection/over temperature protection.

On the back of the package we can see more details, one USB-A port, it can provide 5V/2.4A output, and the other port is USB-C output, it has PD quick charge function and it can provide 5V/3A or 9V/2A output. The total power of two ports are 30W.

By the way, according to the purchasing note of the charger, the USB-C port which supported PD 18W quick charge can only be used to charge iPhone 8 above, for iPad Pro, it can only support 11inch/12.9inch iPad Pro.

Here is the cable, it is a USB-C to lightning PD fast charging cable, it can support 3A max current.

There is one more thing I need to tell you, not every USB-C to lightning cable can support PD quick charge mode, you need to buy a cable with MFI certification.

A cable without MFI certification may cause damage to your devices and when you insert it into your iPhone, you will get a warning “this cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone ”The seller says this charger is as good as the original charger, and it is made for iPhone quick charge, under PD quick charge mode, it can charge 50% in 30 minutes, we use iPhone as an example, the capacity is 2700mAh, energy is 10.35Wh, so it can be realized with 18W quick charge.

The seller says this charger is as good as the original charger, and it is made for iPhone quick charge, under PD quick charge mode, it can charge 50% in 30 minutes, we use iPhone as an example, the capacity is 2700mAh, energy is 10.35Wh, so it can be realized with 18W quick charge.

When the battery is empty, it will use PD mode to charge the iPhone, and if the battery is fully charged, the power will reduce to ensure that the battery is fully charged but will not be over charged.

OK I have introduced the technical parameter and later we will test the charger.

First open the package

We can see that there is a charger and a warranty card (inside the box)

Now we measure the actual value according to the target parameters. We are using the iPhone X as the charging object:

We use UM25C to measure the voltage and current of the USB-A port (5V/2.4A) charging mobile phone:

The result is 4.93V/2.15A.

Then we use TC66C to measure the charging current of type c port:

This should be its nominal 9V/2A charging mode with a small current value.

Next, I will test the protocol supported by the TYPE-C port. The TC66C has the function of measuring the port to support the fast charge protocol, and switch to the quick charge protocol detection interface for detection. The result is red indicating that the charger does not support the protocol, and the green indicates that the charger supports Fast charge agreement

From the figure we can see that this green charger supports QC2.0: 5V/9V/12V, QC3.0, TYPE-C PD fast charge and Huawei FCP 9V fast charge

By the way, it can be measured whether the simultaneous output of the dual port can reach the said 30W output:

total power of the two ports is 27W, which is not much different from the 30W marked.

Next, check the charging rate to see if you can use the 9V/2A quick charge mode to fill 50% of the electricity in 30 minutes, but we found a problem during the test. The charger can't use 18W fast charge. Charge the phone, the power is about 12W, a difference of 1/3 of the power, we have to find out what is the reason.

We test with 2 chargers and 2 wires.

they are UGREEN charger, shunsi 9V/3A charger, xiaomi 9V/3A charger, UGREEN 3A USB cable, iPhone original USB-C to lightning cable.

here is the result:

The charging power does not exceed 12W, which can eliminate the quality problem of the line and the charging head. It should be that this mobile phone does not support 18W fast charging.

Next we measure the heat in full working conditions.

On the left is a 24W charging head. We make a comparison. The result is not accurate because the green is 30W output, both of which are stable at full power for 10 minutes, and the initial temperature is 35 ° C and 47 ° C.

The final temperature is as shown in the figure, 44 ° C and 66 ° C

24W charger increases 9℃ and UGREEN charger increases 20℃

Summary: The charging effect of the green charger is definitely above, but the heat dissipation capacity needs to be improved.

Which one of these would be a fit for a Raspberry Pi 4b? Needs Type-C (non emarked cable) and 5V stable at 3A.

they look great, btw

I did not test that , I don’t know

still this charger I found something interesting:

on USB-A port, we use the same USB tester/charger/data cable/phone to test the charging current, and the results differ so much.

So we need to find out the reason.

Today we will talk about the USB interface, and USB2.0 and USB3.0 interface are the main characters. We need to know the basic knowledge of them:

In appearance, under normal circumstances, the USB2.0 interface is mainly white/black, and the USB3.0 interface is mainly blue. We can see the interface as shown in the figure.

Secondly, their icons are different. We can see that the icon of USB2.0 is like this:

And this is for USB3.0

Structurally, the USB 2.0 interface is a 4-pin design, while the USB 3.0 interface is a 9-pin design.

Finally, the transmission rate:

the USB2.0 transmission speed is 60MB/S, and the USB3.0 transmission speed is 625MB/S, almost 10 times higher than USB2.0.

The USB3.0 interface is normally compatible with USB2.0. , let's get to the topic.

Today's case is an accidental situation we have been looking for for a long time. You know that we produce USB testers, UM24(C) and UM25(C) support USB2.0, and UM34(C)/AT34/AT35 support USB3.0

We have sold thousands of USB testers so far, and we have received more than 99% 5-star recommend, but some customers have reported that one problem is that they use our AT34 tester to connect the charger and mobile phone, and found that the phone can not charge. Or the mobile phone charging current is very small, then they used the UM25C back to find that the charging current is normal, so they think the quality of the product itself is bad and returned the product. We received the returned products and we had a test on them, find that the function is completely normal without any problem. I believe that customers will not lie to me, but I have always remembered this matter.

Until recently I finally meet this problem again, I have always had a habit of plugging a USB tester into the charger to see the charging current. Usually I use the UM25C to test.

However, I recently bought UGREEN charger, and I have made a test video about it. The 18W quick charge on USB-C port is very easy to use. But don't forget that it also has a USB-A output. I used the UM25C in the video and found no problems. Until yesterday I used the AT35 to find that the charging current of the phone is very small. I realized that I might have met the same situation.

I prepare 2 chargers(HUAWEI charger and UGREEN charger) and 3 USB testers(UM25C, UM34C and AT35)

And we can get the charging voltage and current here:

Then we still use the same USB tester and same UGREEN charger to test again. But this time we don’t insert all the male port into the charger

and we get new data:

Only the USB3.0 interface USB tester the current decreases. USB2.0 interface USB tester still test the same result.

So I think you have find out the reason, the output of the charger has problem.

According to the structure of USB3.0, it can be used to connect USB2.0 port and under normal circumstance it has no problem but if their contacts don’t match, it will cause problem.

We can see the structure of the UGREEN charger

The interface of the first picture matches the USB3.0 interface pin, and the second contact exceeds the normal contact range, which causes the problem of small current flow. When we pull out a little tester. After the contacts point are correctly matched, the current returns to the normal value.

Therefore, when we find such an accident, we can use the exclusion method to determine the problem and solve the problem.

This type of USB interface is not common, but there are also such situations, so don't make a decision easily when the problem occurs. Please analyze it calmly and solve the problem scientifically.

Ok, so much to say today, thank you.

8 Frequently asked questions about RD products

YouTube link:https://youtu.be/JpDH1jYb7f4

Hello friends

Glad to see you again. Last week we made a video about the misunderstandings of our products. The purpose of this video is not to complain, but to remind everyone to contact us when you find the problem, so that we can make sure if it is a product problem or a usage problem, and we can offer you some solutions.

This time we have sorted out some questions that customers often ask and hope it can help you. Let's go:

1. Can RD power supplies be used in series or in parallel?

You can use one power supply to power on one RD power supply or several power supplies like the picture shown below

but the output must be used independently, they can not be used in series or parallel (shown below), otherwise it will damage the power supply.

2. How to choose input power for RD power supply?

Normally, we recommend switch power supplies as inputs, and most switch power supplies can be used directly. For example, the input power of DPS5005, you can choose a 48V switch power supply. for DPS5015/DPS5020 you can choose a 60V switch power supply and adjust to 55V-60V so that you can get our power supply full output. It should be noted that the RD DPS and DP series power supplies are step-down power supplies. It is necessary to ensure that the input voltage needs to be 1.1 times higher than the output voltage. The DPH series are buck-boost power supplies so it doesn’t matter. Of course, you can also choose some AC to DC power modules as input.

3.How to connect the UM tester APP to the tester

The connection between Android and Apple mobile phone is different. In short, Android APP needs to connect twice, and Apple only needs to connect once.

For Android phones, enter the Bluetooth interface of the mobile phone, connect the corresponding tester Bluetooth, then open the APP and click the Bluetooth icon to select the corresponding tester connection.

For iPhone, just enters the APP, click “Find” on the connection interface to find the Bluetooth connection, then turn on the switch.

4. Can I use solar panels as the input of the RD power supplies?

I am afraid not, because the output voltage of the solar panel is unstable with the change of sunshine, it is recommended to connect the solar panels to a controller then connect to our power supply, so that you can get constant voltage.

5.Does RD digital power supply has output reverse connection protection?

Yes, but if you want to charge a battery, reverse connection is not allowed. Because the battery has electricity, you can connect the battery to the output directly, but for safety , I suggest you add a protection device, as shown in the figure, the figure is the protection device when you use DPS5020 to charge a battery.

6.the differences between DP,DPS,DPH series power supplies?

①.DPS series are updated version. Panel is different. In DPS series, we change the M1/↑and M2/↓ into V/↑and A/↓. You can press those buttons to set the voltage and current fast

②We add a new function “set default boot open or close output”

③All those power supply can charge the battery directly, don't need external diode. When charging battery, don’t connect battery polarity reversely , otherwise, power parts will bunt.

④DP power supply and DPS power supply are all buck (step-down) converter. But DPH3205 and DPH5005 is buck-boost (step-down and step-up) converter .

⑤5.DPS3005, DPS5005 DPS5015, DPS5020, DPH5005 and DPS8005 have communication version. You can connect PC and use PC software to control.

7.What’s the difference between the UM/AT/TC series testers.

According to the name, the TC series is used to test Type-C interface. There are two testers, TC64 and TC66. The TC66 has more functions than the TC64, and there is a communication version TC66C which supports the PC and mobile APP. You can see the comparison chart here or you can see the differences at the product detail page.

The UM tester has three types: UM24 (C), UM25 (C), and UM34 (C). The communication version has a “C” in their names. UM24C has no iPhone APP, and UM34C has no PC software. (Picture)

AT35 and AT34 can be regarded as simplified version of UM tester. Just like TC64, there are only two interfaces. They have no PC software and no APP. The accuracy and resolution of AT35 is higher than that of AT34. The specific data can be viewed here.

8. Why is there sometimes no current in the TC64?

Unlike TC66, TC64 only supports one-way current passing. We can see that there is an arrow on the front, indicating the correct current direction. Do not take the wrong direction.

These are some of the common problems, because new customers are unfamiliar with our product series. So we talk about the differences between different products. These differences are mainly focused on technical parameters. We also talked about the usage of some products. I hope this video is helpful to you. Thank you, see you next time.

are ugreen chargers are god enough as currently i am using tronsmart pd charger for iphone xsmax but i want 1 more for office…
ugreen prices are attractive…

(currently using this charger its spec seems same like ugreen)

from our test , ugreen is better than other same price brand
