UPDATE: So in regards to the 219c, right now only the sm403 bin is available. None of the other options are in stock. I’ve requested to be notified in case they ever do become available. I also made a mistake and didn’t realize that the sm4550e and sm4570e bins don’t come in 90+ CRI so they will be dropped out of consideration.
219b sw30 and sw35 are still likely to happen. Will keep you guys posted on those as more info becomes available.
By the way, I flowed SW40’s in my FW3A and SW45K’s in my FW3C. Carclo 10511 optics.
SW40 - not a hint of green, pure white tint, gorgeous color rendering.
SW45K - beautiful white tint with that magenta rosiness, gorgeous color rendering.
On turbo, both go more rosy, but nothing like the big tint shift with SST-20’s. I prefer these even if they have less throw. Not even white wall hunting can fault these emitters in my setups. Thanks Azhu! Looking forward to the next batch!
I will, I had them all taken but my memory card seems to have crapped out. I do still like the sw-40 better, but really only for wall hunting. The FD2’s are really good. There is the smallest hint of off color at very low to moderately low drive current. At mid to high current they are just super!
I will shoot the set again this weekend if I can’t recover the images. The most telling is when comparing the D4V2 SST-20 to the FW3A SST-20 FD2. I will shoot with a fixed daylight white balance and with a close white balance of 4000k.
I may also build one with SW-45k’s this weekend to add to the comparison.
I dont know the full technical answer to your question, but imho, the sw45 and sw45k are essentially identical in CRI and only differ in tint, the K being more pink
here is info with charts by maukka on various LEDs that you may find helpful also
the sw45k is guaranteed to be below the BBL… that info is Tint, it is not the same as CRI, which is a separate variable.
the fact that the sw45 tends to not be as far below the BBL is the reason the sw45 is yellower than the sw45k, or to put it another way, the sw45 is less pink, but that in no way means it has more CRI… again, the BBL relationship only tells you Tint, it says nothing about CRI
so, If you want high CRI w more pink tint, further below the bbl, then SW45k is the winner
if you want the same high CRI with less pink (more yellow) tint, sw45 is good enough
since some people object to the extra pink of the sw45k
I offered only sw45 when I had a batch of lights modded for resale
otoh, the one I use for myself, is sw45k, because I dislike the yellower sw45, by comparison
all things are relative, Im totally fine with sw45 if I cant get sw45k
besides, you cant get sw45k from andy anyway, I bought the last ones… LOL
here is an excellent example of the difference in tint of the sw45 and sw45k
you can see that the sw45 has more “neutral Tint”, not to be confused with “neutral white color temperature”
both the sw45 and the sw45k look pink on my white kitchen ceiling during the day, when my brain is adapted to sunlight (5700k)
both the sw45 and sw45k look white at night, when my brain is white balanced to 3000k incandescent
the sw45 is a great LED, for me, the sw45k is greater ;-), but either one is better than any sw40, during the day, when daylight white balance is influencing my brain’s color perception
