WTS/GB: NICHIA 219B NVSL219BT-V1 R9080 EMITTERS! sw45k, sw40, sw35, sw30

Since the SW45 has a better chance of being on the BBL I would suspect on average it would have a higher CRI.

I thought sw45k had a guaranteed chance?

The ‘k’ designation only implies that it is below BBL.

the sw45k is guaranteed to be below the BBL… that info is Tint, it is not the same as CRI, which is a separate variable.

the fact that the sw45 tends to not be as far below the BBL is the reason the sw45 is yellower than the sw45k, or to put it another way, the sw45 is less pink, but that in no way means it has more CRI… again, the BBL relationship only tells you Tint, it says nothing about CRI

so, If you want high CRI w more pink tint, further below the bbl, then SW45k is the winner
if you want the same high CRI with less pink (more yellow) tint, sw45 is good enough

since some people object to the extra pink of the sw45k
I offered only sw45 when I had a batch of lights modded for resale

otoh, the one I use for myself, is sw45k, because I dislike the yellower sw45, by comparison

all things are relative, Im totally fine with sw45 if I cant get sw45k
besides, you cant get sw45k from andy anyway, I bought the last ones… LOL

here is an excellent example of the difference in tint of the sw45 and sw45k

you can see that the sw45 has more “neutral Tint”, not to be confused with “neutral white color temperature”

both the sw45 and the sw45k look pink on my white kitchen ceiling during the day, when my brain is adapted to sunlight (5700k)

both the sw45 and sw45k look white at night, when my brain is white balanced to 3000k incandescent

the sw45 is a great LED, for me, the sw45k is greater ;-), but either one is better than any sw40, during the day, when daylight white balance is influencing my brain’s color perception

Why do you think tint is a seperate variable? CRI is a measurement of a light source against an ideal black body. Tint is shifting away from an ideal black body. IE a 100 CRI light source would have a DUV of 0

because in a post I cant find yet, maukka educated me that there are low cri lights that have tint on the BBL

as a rough example, consider an LH351d whose tint is closer to the BBL than an sw45k, yet the sw45k has higher R9 CRI

tint happens to both low CRI and High CRI… my understanding so far, is that how close tint is to the bbl is not linked to how high the CRI may be… im open to a better understanding if Im mistaken

Ive been wrong before, when I though I might be mistaken… lol

CCT, Y axis, affects how the CRI computed. Lower than 5000K (to the right from at Y axis) use black body radiator as reference. And higher than 5000K use D50 or D65 as reference.
Duv (tint), X axis, affect the tint (yellow, blue, magenta or green) within the same CCT.
There’s certain threshold where duv or tint is considered acceptable. Above or below 0,005 (forget what is the correct standard) is usually considered to be non standard or special color bin. AFAIK, Maukka mentioned about this somewhere. That light source’s CRI with duv too far off the BBL can’t be calculated. Or becomes meaningless.
Nichia has several duv bins for these non standard tint. Sw45k, and Rs30 for example.
Nichia also don’t mention CRI value for Rs30 and the likes.

All else being equal proximity to BBL matters but in reality the spectrum will be different too.
