LG 365nm UV led tested (LEUVA33W70RL00, from Simon)

If you are unhappy with regulation on a 18650, just stick 2 CR123 primary batteries in there, 6V is not too much for the AMC chips you got full power till the batteries are drained

I have build 3 buck/boost driver prototypes which worked great at 1A no MCU, always 100% no LVP just for a protected cell, but the costs of such a driver just the parts 8€ and development time
this would would put it in the 20€ range as there is expected to sell those in very limited quantities

my 2S buck driver can run them without any problem stick 2 18350 but its only available in 20mm so it would be not easy to install it you would need to carefully solder it to the pill,
you also would likely need to shorten the pill to compenssate the lengh loss of the 17mm driver cavity to the rim as well as bore it out to make all parts fit
of course people like hoop or kribbar could make a custom S2+ pill that fits it

There are some UV LEDs that run at 3.6V at 700mA, but others want 3.9-4.1V at 700mA

I took pictures of the Convoy S2 black 1050mA driver (LG LED) and Convoy S2+ black, Nichia UV LED.

Pardon the not-too-clear pictures, maybe someone identify them if they are indeed the LEDs mentioned above.

Here is the first one, and the second one. Looks good.

d_t_a, is the Nichia mounted on a DTP mcpcb?

Where did you buy it?

Nichia is not DTP but its in latest gen on a copper board with better thermal properties than the first ones

Actually I’m not sure if it’s on a DTP mcpcb, will have to take them out again to find out. I got them I think sometime early last year (the S2+ Nichia UV) — it was bought from Gearbest (with discount code)

Convoy S2 (LG UV) = I bought this direct from Convoy AliExpress store.

it cant be DTP as the LED has no neutrtal thermal pad

I received by Aliexpress, the Convoy s2 gray light with the filter, https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32955740360.html, and tried to compare it with my old one,https://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_277704.html ,but I couldn’t find enough difference, except that the new one gets hot in a few minutes.
Any comments please?

Visually it’s hard to see a difference, but with a UVA meter the increase in radiant output is significant for the LG based light. Your new light gets hot with a fresh battery because it’s driven at 1750ma (compared to 700ma for the Nichia light). But after a few minutes the battery will discharge below the Vf of the LED and drive current will drop significantly.
Another note - we are running some spectro tests on wavelengths and power. Nichia, with the small die and reflector, is competing well (brightness) with the larger die LW part. Nothing solid yet, in the middle of compiling the data. But for me, I don’t really see any major difference between all these 3w, 5w, 6w lights - certainly nothing to justify the higher prices. (My use is illuminating fluorescent minerals)

can a 18650 battery burn this led?

DD it from a high drain may kill it

this is the battery

Brand: Samsung
Model: ICR18650-22E
Capacity: 2200mAh Rated
Voltage: 3.70V Nominal
Charging: 4.20V Maximum
1100mA Standard
4400mA Maximum
Discharging: 2.75V Cutoff
440mA Standard
4400mA Maximum

best is you choose a driver with like 4-6 AMCs fore max output on DTP MCPCB

similar battery tested here
https://lygte-info.dk/review/batteries2012/Samsung%20ICR18650-22F%202200mAh%20(Green)%20UK.html

when full you may see over 3A on the LED

and it’s not good? (really i don’t know)

the output graph may look good if it would be a white LED but UV seem not to like to run hot
the junction temperature is mostly a lot lower

:+1: do you know a good battery for this led?

The car analogy would be: do you know good fuel for these wheels.

Wish these were available bare! I’ll just be removing them from the MCPCB anyway…

anyway Simon sent me a new pill+led+driver and its work fine now :crown:
