Rey Engine

I love the mode spacing on my current reylight’s (Ti-Lan and Pineapple), i really appreciate the true moon mode.

However, if i for instance turn on the light, and when i have turned on memory (just found out recently it has that feature, didn’t even know that) and when it has memorized a high mode, i would love to be able to select a lower mode (for instance with a long press, just as the original BLF X6 or A6 firmware) instead of going into a even higher mode.

So for me, please keep the standard UI and use a reverse mode by using a long press.

Hey Rey, I am also a fan of the Pineapple modes. I would like to see a longer press reverse to the next lowest mode. I would think the secondary could be selected by an even longer press as well. One of the things I like about your drivers is their simplicity. I can hand a Pineapple to anyone and they can make it work!

Well this is exciting! I love anduril and would love to have it on a reylight somehow.

Photon Freedom had a good one a decade or so ago and still is a good one!

And yes, I love the BLF A6. Had a few lights built using it because it has a good moonlight, nice levels, the reverse order with long half press….

Agree! I don’t mind if blinkies are hidden. Triple click or something (Like Zebralight). I use at night when walking home and crossing streets at night. Stop signs are sometimes meaningless and need to attract attention to myself. But your suggestions are excellent!

I really like the UI in the TiLan and Pineapple. I think it is good the way it is. Just wan to request that you don’t glue the mcpcb to the shelf. You have the best host and great driver, but just don’t like the emitters.

I’ve been eyeing a brass Pineapple V3, but will likely want to swap the emitter. Is the mcpcb glued down? That could be a problem.

Yes it is glued. Rey said it is removable but I don’t have the technique to do it without damaging the pill

Powers of two, yeah. But…

What do you mean with output? I mean, all of you. Because light output ≠ current output.

If we refer to driver output current the mode spacing needs to be bigger than just twice, at least if we aim to see a doubling in light output for each subsequent mode.

You know the human perception of light output is not linear?
There’s a reason flashlight manufacturers use mode spacing of 1, 10, 30, 100%
:sunglasses:

I might have something like this:

Operation:
Single click - On/Off
Single tap - Mode sequence (Looped)
Double tap - Shorcut to 100% White
Triple tap - Shortcut to 100% Red

Configuration:
10 clicks to enter configuration, after voltage readout it will give 6 solid flashes, each flash stands for a given function.
Is voltage readout and/ or a thermal stepdown a possibility?

Config Menu:
0 .Cell voltage readout possible? in actual blinks (3.8v = 3 blinks, - 8 blinks)

  1. Select a mode group, from G1-G15
  2. Moonlight mode on/off.
  3. Mode memory on/off.
  4. Reverse mode order, H-M-L to L-M-H.
  5. Thermal config stepdown possible?
  6. Reset. (Default. 100, 20, 2, 100 Red) H-M-L-R

Mode groups:
(Double tap shortcut to 100, Triple tap shortcut to 100 Red)

2. 100, 30, 5, 1, ML
3. 100, 35, 10, 2, ML
4. 100, 40, 15, 5, 1%, ML
5. 50, 10, 1%, ML

When the light is on, press and hold the switch for 1.5-4 seconds.

yes, that is exponential, not linear

wle

Isn’t “1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512 1024” actually a geometric sequence?

I believe it is an exponential sequence, but I think modes work better when you multiply by about three (instead of two) between modes.

That was my understanding as well.

1.Red25- red100- white2% – 25% – 100%

This is what Krystal should have offered.

Hidden is intuitive but turning off and back on quickly can trigger accidentally.

I have x2 Lan, a Pineapple and the Krystal….I love your work.

Thanks for your input.
Let’s assume that I was at low mode, and I want to get to high mode; if I click rapidly (let’s say 2-3 times within 1 second), I will be forced into the hidden mode.

Zebra uses electronic switch, reverse clicky is quite different. 1click= next mode, 2 clicks= next 2nd mode, 3 clicks= next 3rd mode.
It can ealisy cause some confusion.

I love the spacing of LAN/Pineapple. One thing I would note though is I occasionally overshoot or over estimate how much light I want / need and inadvertently enable mode memory. Not sure if anyone else has this problem  . Also, handing these lights to muggles is a guaranteed switching of mode memory. Personally, I would like to see config mode require more than 8 clicks.

I can imagine that.
