Probably not, at the moment. Better to let the dust settle a bit. Like half a year or so.
Till that time my 9 yo standard Schnauzer will have to bark twice as hard at the mailman
It was just an example. 3 would be ok. Different strokes and all that but a 2 mode light is a definite no go for me.
Edit: you’re probably right though, 5 may be a bit too much. My main keyring EDC atm is an L3 Illumination L08. It has 4 modes and imo the spacing is amazing, if not perfect (0.09lm, 3lm, 30lm, 120lm).
Even three modes is a stretch for a twisty. My A01 gets tiresome trying to change modes with all the twisting back-and-forth. I like the way DQG and others did the two-stage twist for 2-mode. My Olight with just one mode works fine too.
I understand why people only want two modes on a twisty, but the C01S low is just too low for me.
Has anyone ever made a two-mode twisty where (say) 10 quick twists would change the low mode level?
For example, default could be 3lm and 100lm, but 10 twists would switch it to be 30lm and 100lm. Doing 10 twists again would switch it back. I would just set it to 30lm / 100lm and that would be me sorted.
I have to say different people have different needs. This version always start from High which is kind of like having only one mode. But not only one told “we like it to start from Low”! Why do I need it to start from High if it is such a small light with max output only 100 lumens.
Now I don’t know if the next batch need to change to always start from Low……
It is a matter of variation I think. There are quite a few AAA-keychain lights that have only one mode, people who like that will buy a Olight i3e or an Astrolux for about the same price as an C01S, both are really good flashlights. The C01S distuinguishes itself with an extra low mode for other people who want that. And if you start a poll here on BLF (has been done) you will find that most people like low first.
Btw, in my experience, in most of my uses 100 lumen is really bright, not “just” 100 lumen, and I do not want to disturb the people around me with that. In those occasions I really appreciate that my flashlight starts in low.
Different people have different needs and preferences. There is no right or wrong and you will never please everyone.
Personally I find that for a keychain light, which will be used solely on a keychain, starting on high is ok. For other uses then low to high is preferable.
The main usage of my keychain light is going to and from the car in the dark. In most instances it is dark enough that I need the full power of a AAA and for this purpose, starting on high is perfect. Having more modes increases the versatility and therefore value of the light. For example, I can use a lower brightness to look for something in the boot/trunk or to unlock my front door. I have not bought a C01S yet because I would find the high too bright and low too dim in these use cases.
For bigger lights, I imagine starting on high would be beneficial for specific roles/jobs, e.g. night guard.
Why can’t I see any items belonging to sofirnlight via the “See other items” links? I can successfully open all links given in this thread, but their shop is apparently empty.
