My LED de-domed itself!

I bought this zoomie on special for $15.99
Was thinking of changing to a 6500K LED as it was too yellow for me, so I opened the bezel, removed the plastic zoom lens, and took off the inner ring.
The dome just fell off!!!

Light still works, and it is a XHP 70 on a 20mm star.
I have a 70.2 arriving tomorrow, so I will just swap it out.
Pretty powerful for a $15 light.

Cheap zoomie

Can someone cure me of this disease?

I doubt it’s real Cree XHP70 for that price. Of course it’s possible that the output from a fake doesn’t differ much from the original, clones are always getting better with time.

That is my thinking too.
It looks like a more or less standard star, so tomorrow when I replace it, we’ll see how well it does.
With the dome off, it has some pretty good throw for a zoomie, but just too yellow. I like 6500K

Do you normally shave off the dome, or is it a chemical procedure.

Why do they dome it, if de-doming increases luminosity (newbe wanna learn)?

Neither. First time I have even seen an emitter without the dome.
