KD (kaidomain): Deals and new products thread

Voltage and flux bins are the same as that from L4P.

LEFT: FW3A MCPCB + 10511

RIGHT: Kaidomain Quad Optic and MCPCB

I’m no expert but I don’t think this is right. It seems this optic sits too far down into the MCPCB since either the optic legs don’t have a big enough “shelf” and/or the MCPCB holes are slightly too big.

Sitting on the flat granite I can slightly rock the optic back and forth by the two optic legs but just barely. It’s basically just a thin sheet of paper shy of straight up resting on the MCPCB. In two of the MCPCB holes there is almost no rotational play so it probably wont shear a dome but I feel like it has a decent chance of crushing the substrate or not being in the correct focus?

MCPCB is 1.6mm high (listed as 1.5mm) so that probably doesn’t help either

Had the exact same problem, the optic rests on the dome meaning that the optic cuts into the domes when it’s installed with any pressure on the optic. Lost 4x XP-L HI’s finding this out.

RIP, sorry for your loss. I probably would have done the same if I wasn’t trying to dry fit it inside a FW3A to see how close it is.

I feel like I frequently pay the early adopter tax when it comes to this hobby :\

I damaged a LED from the triple because of the presure too :person_facepalming:

The triples don’t seem bad, but then I use the Carclo optics with those.

The KD quad optic simply has a design flaw or isn’t suitable for use in flashlights.

I hope KD will acknowledge this and address it.

I have built a few triples with Kaidomain optics and i always shave the legs so the optics sits flat on the MCPCB? The triples are deep enough to fit over the whole LED?

If you already have the optics over the dome and its done no damage there should be no problem? you can only apply a very limited amount of pressure more once tighten.

I tried the Kaidomain optics at the stock height looks similiar to your left pic and the beam is wrong its all wonky.

On the domed LED’s its still resting on the LED itself and the pressure will cut into the domes around the bulge. On the XP-L HI’s it just sliced the phosphor off the package.

Weird maybe the quad is a different optic to the triple, Hopefully Ban can fix this problem.

Lets not clutter up the issue with triples. It’s a different beast and he has already revised his triple boards at least once.

In any case, the optic will fit around the dome fine but not around the entire substrate.

Seems the MCPCB is garbage with too wide holes

Another 1-2mm on slightly thicker legs should fix the quad optic, just enough to sit proud of the domes and adjustable with light sanding.

I think it’s the same 2 legged quad optic used on the S41/S41S

. I remember changing a bunch of them S41/S41S into triples because the optic sat on the LED pad and crushed the pad. Also when you tightened or removed the bezel you broke off one or both legs and sheared the domes off…sumtin like that…IIRC…

. ENEDED

. I have a bunch of them in the junk box I pulled out from the ones I changed out…

. I used one in a FW3A (had to add a copper shim for the height to delete the glass lens) to compare to the 10621 Carclo beam…

So what you are saying is after 3 years no lessons have been learned. :person_facepalming:

Looks like most Luminus LEDs are on sale.
Very good price on SST-10 UV.
$5.69 for bare emmiter (56% off).

Could you load the beamshots KB?

I guess the “return” section of the website is just for show. I submitted one over 2 weeks ago but no contact or further instructions.

No acknowledgement in this thread of the issues either. Can’t say i’m surprised based on past posts but in the future I will refrain from ordering new products and let other people be Kaidomain testers.

Hi contactcr

Are you meaning you had create a product return request in our system?

You can let me know what is your returning tracking number.

I can track where is the package.

Thank you

Ban
