Bezel removal tools from darksucks and oveready

I modded this bezel removal tool from darksucks.com to fit my RRT-01

it worked great until I spread it open too far

so I contacted darksucks to request a price for a single replacement and they told me I have to order two new ones.

I was slightly underwhelmed by their service, so I ordered the tool from Oveready instead

hopefully it will be made of a more durable material, as it appears the darksucks version is partly hollow.

IMO 3D printed stuff like that is not a market ready product

Agree, 3D printed stuff is to weak.

Just use a vice grip or a pipe wrench with some rubber protection

I like leather

agreed, at least, not the way I used it

I ordered the Oveready version, hopefully it will be more durable, as it is not hollow 3d…

Did you receive the Oveready version? How does it compare?

Yes I did receive the Oveready version. It is solid nylon, not hollow plastic. It is MUCH stronger and I cannot break it by pulling it open too far like the DarkSucks version. The OR version is So strong I can barely pull it open enough to slip it over a light.

You can get some idea of the difference in construction material density by comparing the weights of the two devices:

I still use the weaker DS version to remove a bezel, because it is easy to spread open, even with just one hand. Though I only have one DS now, and I use one of the OR with the DS version. When I need serious power, to crack open the control ring assembly on an RRT-01, which uses red locktite, I use both the OR tools, because they are so strong. No chance of breaking them.

I had hoped DS would send a free replacement for the broken tool, but they did not offer. In fact, they wanted to sell me a new pair. I had to convince them I only needed one, which they were willing to sell me. But by then I had ordered the OR version.

I cannot recommend the DS version… it feels weak and cheap, nor can I recommend their customer warranty service. They did not stand by their product.

Bear in mind the OR tool would work fine on an OR light, without the added leather spacer I glued in. Same for the DS tool, it is made for a larger diameter light than the RRT-01.

These are not universal tools, they are light specific, made for the diameter of the DS and OR lights. There is also a difference in how far the tools can close down. You can see the handle gap is much wider in the DS version…

I find the tools indispensable for the convenience of opening the many RRT-01 lights that I have been modding. Much easier to install and remove than the vice grips I have as a backup plan.

5 dollar Harbor Freight strap wrenches is all i’ve ever needed. Got a heavily glued Acebeam head apart with them, when all else failed

Interesting. Thanks for the comparison. The OR version has a smaller diameter though which makes it less compatible.
