Convoy L6 UV Rock hunter build 10W+ LED -need build advice

Thanks - link works now, Angle of incidence: 0° - I think that means any light not hitting pretty much at a direct 90d angle will be transmitted, no? Great for lasers, but LEDs? That’s the trouble with dichroics and UV bandpass (at least as far as I have seen).

This simple means it’s a 0° not a 45° or brewster angled filter, of course if light hits more angled it will lose some blocking
probably best here to use LEDs with a high dome not domeless ones

Not sure if you can source ZWB1 filters easily like ZWB2

The ones I’ve tested pass too much visible. Sadly… I use the narrow beam (high dome) LEDs but they really don’t work with the dichroic filters I’ve tried.

Yes, simple to order ZWB1 but we don’t use them other than for photography (reduces the blue/purple bleed you see in many fluorescent mineral photos). I’ve got a few ZWB1 filters, and ZWB3 filters also that we are testing for SW 254nm (Hoya is discontinuing the manufacture of u-325c bandpass filter glass - a big problem for us).

Problem with the ZWB3 is that it solarizes over 50% in under 100 hours - not suitable for shortwave lights.

About halfway down on this page you can see some tests of visible blocking, ZWB2 and ZWB1

I bought these today for my Convoy S2+ Nichia UV. I can compare them to ZWB2 once I receive them.

seems lasers are also no option

RLU4116E, 375 nm, 70 mW, 5.6 mm 4.700,00$

Just an FYI - way overpriced. You can get them on Aliexpress for less than $2.00, $0.50 in small qty. Special order, but they seem to be able to scrounge them up.

Those would be so neat to play with. But $4.7k probably not economical
FWIW - back when there was only one (cheap) source for the 405nm diodes I tore one out of a playstation. Built a mineral light - the very energetic beam was amazing, in spite of the purple light. Did things to minerals we didn’t expect.
Wonder if there’s some commercial application for this where we could do the same (rip the diode out).
Will Google…

you can buy 1W 405nm 38x38mm laser engraving machines under 50$

ZWB1? Which seller?

Just gotta ask the ones on Aliexpress that look like manufacturers (hard to sort from all the resellers). Eventually you’ll find one who has them. Lots of companies making these it seems.

That’s too vague.

You mentioned specific prices, are they from a specific seller that you or someone you know bought from? Which one? Are you confident what you received was a ZWB1 filter, not ZWB2?

Sorry, haven’t bought filters in over a year. Last time I bought I purchased 500 pcs of ZWB2 for $0.50/ea and 10ea ZWB1 for around $2 - but that’s a long time ago. Suggest you contact several of the manufacturers - I’m sure they will give you a good quote.

PM me and I’ll email you my contact’s email

Hey guys,

I’m new to the hobby and I’d love to buy one of these lights already modded, etc. another guy recommended this:

“ Convoy C8 with a buck driver, 2 cells, 42mm ZWB2 filter and LG led uv”

But I can’t find it for sale anywhere. Is that the best one to get do you think? Cost is not an issue

Thanks in advance for any advice for a noobee

Mark, that looks awesome! It looks like it’s only 1.5 amp though. I was reading back through the thread and it looked like you want the 4.5 amp buck driver though, right?

Thanks

Steve

No, 1.5A is about the max for the LED in that light. We have driven them at 2.2A but they get hot real fast and I doubt the longevity.

Hey Mark, thanks again. I just ordered it. Really excited to get this thing…

Really glad I joined this forum. Everyone I know can’t understand why I’m “obsessed” with flashlights and now I know I’m not alone  I told my buddy that I ordered the Imalent MS18 and he said “Why do you need that? Are you trying to find something on the ground at night from really far away?”

I have the feeling that there are others on this forum who get excited when they tear the box open and pull out the new flashlight

Probably a good idea to get some UV safety glasses huh? I have ones for my lasers but none for this wavelength
