Did you use primer under the paint?

I tried painting a light but the paint doesn’t stick good. The primer helps but its still not as good as anodizing.

just engine enamel ,guess I will se how it goes.

have you tried the bake on exhaust ceramic paint evdsg

Nah i haven’t but its on my list of things to do. I am on an Aussie EDC page on Facebook and some people swear by cerakote. There was an older thread on here talking about it.

I am not sure what abuse the light bar will see, but i am wondering if things like sand or tiny rocks hitting it will be an issue at higher speeds?

Where as my painted light was used as an EDC on my keyring so it was well abused.

You are right .I am thinking paint jobs will come with lense replacement.2 of the lenses are lexan 1 is acrylic. I am told acrylic is more scratch resistant.lexan stronger.so will see how it all goes.its all a learning curve all be it a expensive one.i think I’m well over the $400 au mark.makes rmm’s bars cost effective
If you add time in.

Looking forward to seeing the final product.

Do you have another light bar to compare the beam with ?

Only a ebay/osram thing. which draws about 9amps.this should draw over 30amps.

A bit of a tease,

mounted the leds and wired the centre section

as thought each bank of 4 leds draw 11.2amps.

this drops if the car is turned off ,

Was that running only the bank you were testing or running all three and testing one?

just one bank of 4leds. haven’t finished wiring the rest yet.

Aah, I see. Just wondering if the auto electrics can maintain that current for all three ? I don’t know much about it ???

my plan is to wire the Centre section on one relay,And the outside two on another relay ,most relays can handle 30a.
so I can run 4,8 or 12 leds at once, depending on need
.will probably check out Jay car tomorrow for a switch etc.

Most cars with properly working electrical systems should be able to handle the added 35A or so, I should think. My two audio amps are fused at 100A and 140A, and haven’t destroyed my alternator yet. :smiling_imp:

finished the wiring, tested fixed the reverse polarity on one led.

so it needed brackets so I turned these mistakes into

the little brackets you see either end.

now mounted on car with the little test unit I have been using for the last few weeks and the commercial bar we will use for comparison

You will be burning the hair of the back of roos and blinding the odd possum with this light bar. Maybe it should have a warning on it. Nice work ltp.
Good to see the new budget pc doing its job, and I said it wouldn’t work.
