I actually really enjoy the Cree Q5 because of the amazing throw on it when zoomed in, but i would like something more premium that can throw a really tight beam, i dont care if it is zoom or not, i would just like a very bright chinese light that can throw like mad. I saw a post on here today of the K75 AceBeam, obviously that is way over the top but i do like the beam on that. so if anyone has recommendations on the most throwy budget light out there id love to hear it.
Some additional information on what im looking for:
Size isnt an issue, i dont plan on EDCing it.
Preferred battery type: 26650/18650
Preferred Lumens: 800+ more is better
Preferred throw: 700m+ more is better
the Sofirn TK70 looks good, but from the videos thats still not a pure thrower and is really more expensive than i had in mind.
so id love a flashlight like the emisar D1S (bigger than that is also fine) with a very concentrated beam. colour temperature and all that arent an issue, i just want to have a light that has the ability to call the batman whenever i feel like it.
The XHP50.2 looks far brighter in that picture. any reason other than the yellow spot to go for the sst40?
For 5 dollars more you seem to get double the lumen. that seems like a good deal to me.
Also, are there any mods that people have done to for instance turn the Emisar D4 into a thrower by slapping a lens on it or something along those lines?
i myself 3D printed a light diffuser for my d4 under which i can slide coloured plastic films to adjust the colour tone. i was wondering if people have done the same but with lenses instead of diffusers.
I thought about that, but decided to buy the FT03 XPH50.2 as size wasnt really a consideration as i dont want a thrower as an EDC, and the shape of throwers in general seems uncomfortable to EDC, so i dont really see the value in such a small thrower. though i must admit its beamshots look very impressive for its size.
My best budget thrower is c8+ with flat white led. Pretty incredible throw. I have all the parts to make another one. So if you are interested i can make you one for the money I have in it. Im also in Nl. Dus stuur me een PM als je interesse hebt;)
The sst-40 has a tighter beam and therefore more throw.
The xhp50.2 has a floodier type beam with a wider hotspot and therefore less throw. Both are extremely impressive for the features they have such as usb c charging and their price point.
But as far as the tight throwy beam pattern you described, the sst-40 version would give you that.
I had assumed the difference would be near nothing since the XHP has twice the lumen, the website i saw said the sst40 had 50m more throw, so i went for the brighter one. on the subject of throw, how is throw distance calculated? what does it mean when a flashlight has xxx amount of throw? id like to see the definition of it somewhere but i cant find it.
