is there a light that will stop a atacking dog?

sadly the only other place is to walk in the street this city hates those who walk.

A friend who walks with us every morning has this thing (I don’t know how it’s officially called) that looks and has the size of a single 18650 light.

This thing has two electrodes on one end that emits a high-voltage arc when switched on.

Designed to temporarily ‘electrocute’ an attacker, when switched on it emits a crackling noise that makes dogs scamper away, with tail between their rear legs, run away like crazy when they hear this crackling noise. Unfortunately it didn’t last long I cannot confirm it again for this thread.

However, during those times that it worked we always had a nice, hearty laugh everytime our walk-mate used it on stray dogs that sometimes threaten us with growls.

What makes dogs react to it like crazy and so fearful to the crackling sound, I don’t know.

Interesting choice of words. I shall pass on that statement.

Myself, if talking to the owner doesn’t get some resolve. Take it to the proper authorities. A friendly call to the police department should put you in contact with someone who can explain city or county ordinances pertaining to where you can walk and where you can’t. It can also give you the info you need on animals at large. I’m sure it varies widely from state to state and municipality to municipality. I know in my state your animal has to be controlled or confined in a way as not to bite or attack someone walking on public sidewalks or streets. Here a sidewalk is a public through fair with a easement granted to the city, county, or whoever maintains it. It is for public use and other peoples animal can’t interfere with that. Doesn’t matter if he thinks it’s his property, it just isn’t.

After all that info is gathered your next question should be what can you carry or do legally to protect yourself from the animal on public land.

When that is said and done the city cannot deny you access to walk where it is legal to do so, including public roads that aren’t deemed state highways. Or some half wit council member who happened to write a ordinance that bans it.

So I guess it all depends on how willing and how far you want to go to enjoy your walks. Personally, I would skip the flashlight part. Dogs can bite and kill. Don’t shine flashy objects at something trying to do you real harm.

ill edit it . im just frustrated with some of the citizens in this town

Dogs run away because they instinctively know that trustfire batteries used in these type of flashlights could go off at anytime .

I completely understand. I’m sure it is a pain in the you know what.

Hope you can resolve it without too much trouble. It’s a shame sometimes how one inconsiderate person or dog I guess, can ruin an entirely enjoyable walk.

Happy walks my friend.

Hey!! Don’t trash my Trustfires. I have some that work pretty good. Black with flames on them I think. Capacity is right on. Seem as bright as any others. No real official way of measuring that though.

Repost:

In 2010, shortly after signing up for BLF, my neighbor's pit bull got into our yard and fatally wounded my mom's dog, Garth, a German Shepherd.

(Garth did not die from his injuries immediately.)

The pit bull was in our front yard, and my mom and Garth were in the back porch.

There was no barrier to keep the pit bull from further injuring Garth, or attacking my mom.

So I stood in the side yard with a flashlight, the Lumapower MRV SE.

I shined the light at the pit bull as it ran around in circles and Animal Control tried to capture the pit bull.

Every time the pit bull got close to me, it turned away because of the light.

If it weren't for the flashlight, that pit bull would have gone from the front yard, to the side yard, to the back yard, to the back porch, and caused more injuries.

The Lumapower MRV SE isn't anything special in 2019, and the pit bull was friends with me, so maybe any throwy flashlight might help.

scary stuff racoon i have a very bad feeling the dog im haveing issues will chase some one into the road this is a super very busy 5 lane highway. the wierd thing it looks like a labadar. and most dogs love me

Shotgun is far better.

I’ve had a couple of close encounters with stray dogs, including Rottweilers. A turbo or strobe from my FF E07 and Q8 always worked… They hate bright light.

Go to a feed/fodder store. Most carry ranges of catle prods.
Buy one.

It’ll only go you once guaranteed.
It knocks them back a coupla metres and they yelp forever.

We used to have problems with dogs when horse riding yrs ago. Every bloody gate coupla yappers came out and spooked the horses.

I took my pig dog on one ride. but he killed one and damaged several others that came out and met him.
So we borrowed a long prod from Cattle mate. Carry in rifle boot on saddle.
Dog comes. zap. dog goes. Simple.

i would not think so.

fl;ashing strobe is your best bet

or one of those stun gun/shocker lights
they are usually terrible flashlights though

they have the shocker contacts around the bezel, or maybe on some protruding spikes

and they require your hand to be in biting range to apply
also the dog isn;t going to be still and let you just touch him with a weird looking thingy
\
they might work better on people

though still you are in knife/fist range to apply them

Do these ultrasonic contraptions work?

Otherwise, you may need to find yourself a new cologne:

If you live within the city limits for Atlanta, Fulton County Animal Services officers enforce the laws relating to dogs. One of them is you are not allowed to let your dog run free if the dog is off your property. In most states, the sidewalk is considered to be PUBLIC property, not part of the owner’s lot. Here is the website for Animal Services. Contact them about the dog being loose and able to leave the owner’s property and harass you.

“Please call 404-613-0358 to request field service Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to request the following assistance:
loose animals”

as another ‘atlanta’ resident - one problem is that there are several city/county jurisdictions, you may think you are in doraville but it’s tucker, or some non-city part of a county.

or worse ‘atlanta in dekalb county’ - a bifurcated region where nothing works

Bring him a steak. And consider throwing it on the busy road.

Light Up Bubble Gun - 5 1/2 Inch

No dog can resist bubbles….only fill it with dill pickle juice.

You’re probably not too far from me.
Can you tell me what path you’re taking that has this problem? (PM is good)

Seriously though, the steak is a great idea. If he wanted to do you harm, he would have already. So just feed him (raw) steak and he will like you.
