Need some help

I am rebuilding some lights I modded 12 years ago and have had some setbacks. I bought drivers and led’s and thought I matched them up correctly however the two drivers below and the leds didnt last more than a few seconds. The drivers appear to still be able to power some old luxeons I have sitting around .These are the drivers and leds after the multi mode one fried the led I went with a single mode buck the light is a 4 D cell mag and it will be running three 26650’s(protected) if someone could let me know where I went wrong I would be grateful.

Wellp, for one thing, a “1 or 2 cell” driver wouldn’t fare so well with 3 26650s powering it.

Yes I kinda realized that after it fried the led :confounded: but what about the buck driver?

It depends on the voltage handling ability of the buck driver. Most buck drivers for flashlights are good for up to 3 li-ions, but some cam only handle 2. If you’re driving a 3V led I’d imagine you need a driver that can handle 12.6v max input and 3v output.

I realized my mistak on the first driver however I thought this second one should have worked.This combination lasted about 30 seconds

thanks for the responses so far. If someone has favorite combo they would like to recommend I’d be :smiley:

You wouldn’t be driving that xp-l that hard at only 2A. That emitter can take 6A with good heat sinking. It would still be a lot of light, just not what it’s capable of. The other issue is the driver size. Aside from this one: 17mm buck driver I can’t think of any 17mm buck drivers to push the xp-l hard. It’s put of stock (you need to request for Richard to build you one since they are madee to order). Yes, it’s expensive, but this is my recommendation if you can’t fit in a 20mm or 22mm board, which you can get for cheap overseas.
