P4000 5a Buck driver

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has used one of these ?

Supplier says it is a 3v output runs up to 2 cells with a 5amp turbo mode , seems to good to be true for this money? would not be a huge deal to turn up some 22mm x 20mm copper spaces so allow soldering into 22mm hosts.

That’s the Driver that came in a KDLITKER Quad SST20 I just purchased —It seemed fine on the normal 4 modes with 1 cell—to get the light into Turbo I had to use 2 cells —kind of unusual for a Quad with SST 20s — The regulation seemed good in High mode

Just got one in as well. On a single cell I only get 4 modes as well. Have not been able to pull off the double click to get to turbo, may try it on 2 18350’s and see what happens. The one thing I find a little annoying is that when switching to low, the light pulses a fairly bright pulse upon entry to the mode. Not sure what that is all about. But, I do like the driver in a P60 as it prevents the light from getting stupid hot and seems to be well regulated.

BTW, the tint of the SST-20 4000k used in this quad is quite good! Not much green in low mode. :slight_smile: Also a pretty good tight beam with the KD optics, just wish they would drop in for a Carclo. :frowning:

Im using this in a few different setups now and it seems to do pretty well on 2 cells, I do get Turbo But for me it does not make a determinable difference in brightness, but i could see a clear jump on the tail cap amps…

The chart in the white flat thread shows the biggest gains from 3A to 4.5A , from 4.5A to 5A you gain virtually nothing so its not really surprising i don’t see it.

Perhaps the turbo will be more obvious on another emitter, im going to try one with the new 3v Xhp50.2 emitter soon so we will see how it goes.

Is this driver resistor moddable?
I could use one but the mode spacing is not really fits to my application.

Did you ever try this with a 3v XHP50.2 and single/double cells? Thanks

Chance to work 100%, for the driver a “3V XHP50.2” (1S4P) is no different than any other 1S emitter.

I don’t know… the big 1R0 sure looks tempting to play around with.

As a sense resistor 1R0 or 1 Ω makes no sense, by Ohm's law when 4 amps (let alone 5) of current go across 1 Ω of resistance there is a drop of 4 V, and 16 W of heat are generated. Thus, that (alone) cannot be the sense resistor.

Other than this no tinkerers and no reviews yet so God knows.

Can you please explain, Barkuti? I know you’re right, I just don’t know the calculations. I was thinking the really low vF of the 3v XHP50.2 might make it able to get to turbo with this driver and a single cell input. Is the reason the drivers overhead voltage requirements? Just trying to learn a little bit. Thanks!

I have a C8 i setup with a 3v Xhp50.2 & 7 amp driver and it is noticeable not as bright as either of the above drivers with the 6v xhp50.2 emitter , it may change if you can find a 3v driver capable of 10 amps

Whoever designed and/or firmware programmed the driver could answer that much better. I don't think it will turbo with single cell input no matter the Vf of the emitter, but you can try. You could also lower the sense resistor stack value (adding resistors in parallel) for its high mode to go up to 5 - 6 A by default. However, with single cell input regulation will only be possible for as long as the input voltage is high enough.

It is very obvious that driving a 3V/1S XHP50x at whatever current equals the same power as driving a 6V/2S XHP50x at half the whatever current!

If going buck or boost, it is much better to choose a 6V/2S emitter. The above buck or boost drivers with a 6V/2S XHP50x makes a nice bright torch. Please note that in the case of the boost driver cell current will go above 10 A.

That mode spacing though…
They put a moon mode in it and sacrifice a low or mid mode. :person_facepalming:
