Amutorch AX4 Question

I won’t post links but in taobao (eng) search for 18350 flashlight and I guess it will appear!

“I’m more interested in that Hanko clone quad.”

Do you mean this ?

YES! that’s it !
Thanks mate

Thanks! That name is pretty damn hard to find by anybody. Surprised you found it!

It's about time this AX4 e-switch light came out. I got two of the AX3's which are the 2 LED version of the same light. It's an easy light to mod with a driver swap. The 2 LED version came with a 4 LED MCPCB so the AX4 is a no brainer, specially since it's the same price, even cheaper than the XPL-HD AX3. Plus looks like this AX4 comes with a SS switch while the AX3 had a plastic one.

My guess is the light is 100% aluminum, no titanium, and is an 18650 light - based on the dimensions, can't do 21700's. The AX3 plastic switch did well so I'm worried about how good the SS switch is because switch quality makes the light, but SS should be better. I think they list SS because of the clip and switch. Would have been nice if the bezel was titanium or SS, but being in black and for this price, probably not.

I got a bunch of the small/EDC Amutorch e-switch lights. All are easy to mod and I consider a great deal for the price. Ordering this via Martin's discount today - SST-20 4000K because it's showing in stock on BG.

Looks like the AX3 has been dropped everywhere now...

I found this nice triple. The copper looks nice. The price is cheaper on the english Taobao site than the Chinese Taobao site. Is this English Taobao site legit?

There are alot of very interesting flashlights that I’ve never seen before on the Taobao site and I thought I’ve seen pretty much every flashlight out there lol

No idea how things got so confused above, but the head of the AX4 should definitely be aluminum - I have almost every Amutorch light there is and none have a titanium head. This lights appears to be all aluminum - head, bezel, tube and end cap. I'm basing it on the BG and Ali descriptions where titanium is not mentioned. Was hoping the bezel at least would be SS but doesn't look like it is. Mine arrived at the local P.O. this morn, so should get it today or tomorrow.

Very impressed small light - about exact length of the FW3A (actually listed smaller), and smaller than the D4V2. The AX4 has modes and ramping, much cheaper than a D4V2. Deep pocket clip, but reversed so the head is up in the pocket - little strange but I expected this from the pics. I ordered the 4000K.

Can you confirm the UI? Is it click to turn on and off?

It's not NarsilM or Anduril, not the best:

  • click ON for modes, click to advance a mode level, click&hold for OFF
  • click&hold for ramping ON at the last level, click for OFF
  • ramping goes to max turbo, while for modes, dbl click for max turbo

And the head does get hot quick in turbo with the 4 SST-20's running on a 30Q cell.

For me it's a great light to mod - simple driver replacement.

Click&hold for off killed it for me. Thanks.

Agree on the UI, but for me it's moddable with a stock size BLF driver -- actually I have to verify this but was with the AX3's.

Dunno if Neal checks in reading anything, but should get the word to Neal on this UI - dunno, but maybe he would have some sway over at Amutorch.

Lately they seem to be push'n these tail/power switch lights which I have no interested in whatsoever.

i got the 5000 k version….very small, very bright….on how many amps is working yours on samsung Tom??? do you have also Emisar? which one is brighter?

Oh boy, might have done tests but not sure - notes at home.

i mean something visible…not 300 lumens:))) still looks like,Emisar is the brightest one 18650 flashlight on the market

Ahhh, not sure what you are saying/asking for. I don't know if the stock AX4 is a true FET based driver, like the Emisars, but if they are, it all depends on the LED's - you need to compare apples to apples. For me of course, I plan to swap out the stock AX4 driver so the driver I use will be as good or better than the Emisar, so doesn't matter to me.

Tom which side switch driver will you use?

I use our BLF driver designs, buy the PCBs direct from OSHPark, and reflow the parts on myself. I got a bunch of triple channel and FET+1's in various sizes and a decent stock of parts.

The boards are either TA or DEL designs, for the most part, all using the ATTiny85 for hosting NarsilM or Anduril.

More in the Amutorch line. One of those X9's was a factory triple SST-40, upgraded to XHP50.2's. Does about 10K lumens, pulls 30 amps form a GOLISI. The TC750 is fully modded with XPL HI V4 3C's, does about 2800 lumens, 65 kcd. One of the AX3's (dual LED's) is modded with XPL HI V2 5D's and does about 2200 lumens, 16 kcd:

AX4 dis-assembleid:

Bone dry thermal grease, not sure how much good it does:

Removed the extra brass ring from the stock driver, transferred to the new driver. New driver is designed by Cereal Killer for the ZY-T11 and it's clones, but is about perfect fit for this light, including the on-board switch. Had to trim the brass ring a little to be sure it clear those 2 pass-thru's:

Got a little further - reflowed the brass ring and the parts, but the switch is tricky - hope it works out. Will find out soon.
