Ultimate LED Bulbs - Ultra High CRI - The Honorable Quest

Aaah! Ukraine. Here is some crazy fellows from Ukraine too:

:-D

According to Energy Star these two smart bulbs are CRI 91-92 R9 = ~50

They are RGBW bulbs and the white can be tuned from 2700K through 6500K.

“Costco has the ”60W”“:https://www.costco.com/feit-wifi-smart-bulbs%2C-4-pack.product.100417461.html 4 pack on sale for $30 - very tempting

I saw on post #107, Adam, your PCB layout was marked “CCCP”. At least in the USA, and especially the generations older than me, that can trigger political feelings. I wouldn’t recommend it for the next batch of PCBs. Sorry.

But on a happier note, I was wondering where you were escaping to? I assume it’s a vacation destination?

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say.

Will the drivers have problems? Because I added 4 × 15µF to a Qihan 1500mA output driver and its working fine, many weeks already.

Using some simple linear power supply calculator looks like the power factor for the QH-40W-LP driver I posted above, when loaded with ≈24W, as a rough estimate drops to 65%. Just rough guesstimation, of course.

Capacity 60uF is a small value for LED driver of this power. Adding capacity to output usually, except smoothing output current and changing PF (to one side or another), generates also greater current surges when switching on, unless there is a soft start (e.g. NTC thermistor). Current surges if you overdo with the additional C may cause a fuse activation or damage the rectifier bridge, etc.
Adam, what is your emigration direction? Maybe Ithilien? Come, we will establish a global corporation producing the highest quality LED bulbs :smiling_imp: .

Joshk

I’ve lived in a socialist country for almost ten years of my life. Thanks to this “brilliant” political system that the Soviet Union has funded in this part of Europe, we are still economically backward and poorer than western countries, So I also do not like the CCCP mark on the PCB layout.

Sorry if it seems confusing. I meant to say because I added 4 × 15µF at the input to a Qihan 1500mA output driver and its working fine. The capacitance is added at the bridge rectifier's output.

The Dark Energy 600mA 20W max driver I posted above uses 25µF capacity at the input, so I thought slightly more than twice would be fine for the aforementioned 1500mA 50W max Qihan unit, it is running with just ≈30W of load anyway.

I understand the rest Bocian, neither NTC nor fuses here. You really, really have to overdo with capacitance for the bridge to get screwed. Thanks for pinpointing the NTC as inrush current limiter thing.

Quality control
State quality mark of the USSR

But then, shouldn't the Rostest's seal of approval have superceded it?

13w (real) led bulb with this (right side) led driver was marked CE and РосТест (Rostest)

so?

s.
As my friend said: “все хотят качества, а когда видят клеймо качества - обоссываются. абсурд!”
“everyone wants quality, but when they see the brand of quality, then they are piss. absurd! (nonsense
!)”

The quality of products made in the USSR is / was legendary. Most people were poor (except people associated with the political party) so if they were buying something, it had to work for many years.

In Poland, that time, was joke about products made in the USSR (сделано в СССР) “gniotsa nie łamiotsa” what means: It may bend but not break

Sorry for offtop.

btw. there are also 2835 version of SOL leds 0.2/0.4W

wow… “world government passport” is it really useful?

P.S. Kudos from UA. Do you sell/ship DIY parts from within Ukraine?

Yes. I use it in some places. For exampe, banks operations.

Now, it is one of 4 passports in the world where your names can be not fill like a slaves names. I mean not NAME, but Name.

About post service fee from Ukraine or Belarus. Price in all countries is the same (even in Russian Pederation). It start from 5$ (under 250g) to 20$ (under 2kg)

The question is whether you will ship from UA to UA with fast&cheap domestic carrier (NovaPoshta or UkrPoshta) or postage to Ukraine will anyway be from abroad?

would write in Rus or Ukrainian. I still do not quite understand … Only Ukrposhta sends abroad Ukraine. Into UA I send from UA, so, it is without any customs or etc. It is because I am in the Ukraine now. But I’ll be in Belarus soon.

I am really sorry for offtopics, but I do not received any questions into private messages.

We’re gonna end up having to make the BLF light bulb

This Airam is alright but nothing spectacular. Result after just a couple minutes so it will probably end up at the BBL after a while heating up.

Also tested another Airam bulb. An adjustable CCT one with 2700K, 4000K and 6500K option. You switch between those by turning the light off and on within 4 seconds. Not high CRI but interesting none the less. The 4000K mixed tint seems usable and as expected has a negative duv.

Adam, if you could build some bulbs with the famous Nichia 219b r9080 LEDs I think you could easily sell hundreds just here on BLF.

Ou course I can, but…
Spectrum is not so good.
And I think that using ordinary leds - it is a crime!
I already use more better leds! SOLs and SAWs is much better than NICHIA

I use leds without 450nm (blue) peak, and without hollow in 480nm (turquoise), and with violet

It is not all. I know that there is so much flashlights based on NICHIA high CRI fake white leds.
But I built my own prototype of head flashlight based on COB sunlike (SAW) with 18 crystals.
Just yesterday I find some interesting things because violet spectrum.
I am sorry, it is really hard to me talking in english without fatal errors.
So, I finded another sing just yesterday, why using ordinary leds it - is a crime. In this situation it is using in lampposts and in car lights. First reason was blindness, because blue peak and turquoise hollow. Pupil (eyes) system failture with this.
What about violet spectrum? I thought that the reflective stripes on my son’s backpack were fake. But yesterday I noticed that they are still shining. Because we went to the store, and was with my sunlike flashlight. These stripes shone, even in very weak lateral light! The reason why I thought that this reflective stripes was fake - led light without violet spectrum! It was amazing! Just yesterday!
It is truth! here is his backpack

Some photos of prototype of my second head flashlight HERE
it is 35 volts COB LED…
My lampman’s helper will do board with microcontroller and with hight effective (~95%) ultra high frequency transformer led driver without any pulsations.

Independently from the high praises and results seen in flashlight with 219b, from preliminary tests shown by Adam and I hope confirmed in the near future by Maukka, SunLike LEDs from SSC seems better. Close to even "outstanding" at the moment.

That and Optisolis are curramently leading, from a light quality perspective. To be fair and complete I've not studied "batches stability" of those LEDs, as they are still not easy to source. That *could* be a drawback, but I've not yet seen anyone employing them complain, so.
