*BLF LT1 Lantern Project) (updated Nov,17,2020)

Great…now I’m gna be scared instead of excited when unboxing my new lights.

That one was still missing in “”The great list of **fire flashlights”“:- The great list of "****fire" Flashlights..

You signed up for a second spider ?

I find it very interesting that not one person has posted about another delay for those on the list in acquiring this lantern? This time something about them not being able to get the LEDs… It was stated that this would be another month, or more! I’m sure that takes us into Chinese New Years…. so we’re most likely looking at many more months. Yea, It bothers me, because the lantern has excellent reviews and who isn’t anxious to get theirs, it’s been a while

I don’t know why there isn’t some Manufacturer rep who can be transparent with us, except that isn’t normal behavior for a human being. You simply can’t fault honesty.

Meanwhile I’ll just continue to look at the posts of those who have already received their lanterns.

(wouldn’t change anything, but would like to know how it happened that THEY cannot get LEDs now)

…. call me impatient -

Hey Impatient - I’m Dad.

“it” happens when you’re a dealing with small-ish wholesale quantities of products that are run in batches

Personally, I’m happy that they bothered letting us know of the delay, and even shared why things are being delayed. It was easy to be patient when there was no real ETA on this. Now that things have started and the finish line is in sight, it’s getting harder.

From what information we been told & can gather now, the 2nd batch release will be closer to the end of the month. It appears that because of the massive order for the LH351D LEDs they need to manufacture them to shore-up the number needed. (of its 2500 GB LT1’s, that equals to 10,000 2700K and 10,000 5000K LED units they need, i’m guessing there wasn’t that many produced yet.

Another vote for changing the bail handle and adding powerbank support.

Assuming you carry the lantern conventionally and not suspended from paracord, the wirey bail handle will dig into your hand over time. The streamlight siege have nice bail handles coated in some rubber/silicone so not as uncomfortable.

And seems a waste to lug around 4x18650 and not be able to dip into those power reserves if light is needed in a particular situation. Nitecore and Fenix both of have lanterns with powerbank features so shouldn’t too much of a stretch.

Looking forward to see where the project goes!

I’m sure it will always be a dream but I’d love a lantern the size of the old Coleman I had.

Might be able to get 8x 26650’s in space of the old fuel tank or 12x 21700’s, run the thing for a year :sunglasses:

Would definitely need a power bank function then!

Candle mode runs forever and 3 clicks sets it on a timer in 30min increments?

The manual says 3C adds +30min so I initially thought it was default to 30min until I woke up in the morning with it still on

Yes, it will run forever unless you specify a sleep timer. First 3C will set it to 30 mins and each additional 3C will add 30 mins up to 4.5 hours.

Mine came in yesterday… I have not been able to find any faults with the light, solder pads for 7135’s were correct, everything was tight and clean and it lit up!

Seriously, this is a wonderful product from a strong design team and Sofirn’s manufacturing was spot on!

Only one minor nit to pick… and I think and easy fix. I like light from 3000k to about 4750k. When the brightness is ramped up, the tint shifts to cooler as expected since CW leds have more light output. I am thinking about opening up one of the 7135 channels on the CW side of the driver to remove some of that tendency. Not sure if it will be to much or not, but going to try. Still can’t get over how smooth the light from this unit really is. I can see I will use it often, if my daughter does not steal it to read by late at night.

You don’t really believe that do you? How small of a batch of those LEDs do you think Samsung makes at a time? They’re making at least hundreds of thousands at a time, not hundreds or low thousands. No one sets up and fires up their semiconductor production line to run only one wafer down it. The number of LEDs used by these lanterns is a drop in the bucket, not a tsunami they’re struggling to deal with.

That may be part of the problem. Companies buying large volumes on a continuing basis may be much larger purchasers and receive favoritism in having their orders fulfilled ahead of relatively smaller orders. Not all orders at the manufacturer level are filled in strict time order. Contracts for large ongoing amounts of anything take precedence.

How certain are you that the binning is the same for the entire hundreds of thousands?

It could be true for these specific high cri leds

Everybody - please step back and chill.

Sofirn is not Duracell or General Electric. Samsung is not very likely to prioritize a few reels of LEDs for Sofirn over a few thousand reels for large direct clients. Heck - the wording of the message was ‘the distributor’, so Samsung is not likely to be dealing with Sofirn directly at all.

The LEDs will be delivered.
The Lanterns will be built.
GB purchase codes will go out.
You will get your lantern(s).

It’s just their time of the month maybe

One thing I noticed while studying the latest Andúril chart ToyKeeper provided for the lantern is the absence of an SOS mode in either the strobe or blinkies section. Some of us will be using this light in areas with poor or no cellular service. Even with cellular service, redundancy is not a bad thing in an emergency. Might not be a bad idea to add one after the beacon, or swap out the bike strobe.

good point, i never really thought of the SOS mode, but it could have replaced the bike-flasher mode. As its a 360 degree light source, i can see how the SOS mode could be very useful in a marine situation, (on a sail boat or cabin cruiser,) and a breakdown or emergency arises. Same can apply to wilderness campers, general boating, winter emergencies, highway breakdowns, etc.

While it’s not a traditional SOS mode, the Beacon and BatCheck modes should be attention grabbing too.

Why has the temperature blink-out been removed?
I know, the lantern needs no temp control, but especially outside a temperature info would be nice.
Even more so, since the LEDs are far away from the Sensor in the LT1 and the readouts would be more accurate….
