What did you mod today?

Totally agree here. I've done 1 or 2 mods in somewhat similar fashion but they never come out look'n as good as yours, Catnap! It gives me ideas though of using straight single strand wire instead of the coated 30 AWG multi-strand wires I had been using.

I sprayed the underside of the bowl/shade last night. That does make the illumination on the table worksurface brighter and removes the greenish cast. I have picked up a couple of other colors as will drill them out sometime today. Photos later.

One of those 3 for $1.80 flashlights, pimped with rngwnā€™s warm LEDs

Direct driven, three AAAs. 110mA each LED :person_facepalming:

Nice, that must be about 200 lumen of extremely pleasing illumination.

Yes

But Iā€™ll see where I can add a resistor.

Sweet :sunglasses:

Simple mod last night.

  • Swapped out the Nichia 219C high-CRI LEDs for three 4000K XPL HI taken from an Emisar D4. The Nichias have great CRI and tint. Unlike the SST-20, the 219C doesnā€™t become greenish at low power. Unfortunately, the Nichias just arenā€™t that bright and have little throw. I find I prefer the extra punch of XPL HI.
  • I also replaced the stock one-piece plastic optic with a Carclo 10507 and glass optic.
  • I swapped the stock tailcap for one from an early model black Emisar D4. The thread pitch is the same and it fit nearly perfectly. There was a slight gap at the bottom which I bridged with a piece of solder braid bent into a c-ring. I swapped the tailcaps since I donā€™t like magnets for pocket EDC. I donā€™t want to demagnetize my wallet if I put the light in the wrong pocket.

Sawed another hole in another bowl.

My wife likes this shade better than the other. But as Henk4U2 stated, I think the darker green looks kind of nice in room light. The shade is easy to swap though.

^ I like that! :+1:

What KB said.

Nice bankers lantern  .

If you recall my 14500 fw3a from last week (a modded Nitecore D10 with custom fet+1 driver running anduril) Iā€™ve now completed the mod with aux leds.

Add on aux board? We donā€™t need no stinkin aux board!

Installed and wired

Finished. Pic was taken hastily so itā€™s not directly head on, the main led is centered but because of how I had to do it both aux leds are offset to one side

This light is for sale. Iā€™m also building one additional thatā€™ll be for sale too.

I know itā€™s nothing fancy but Iā€™m new to modding and I wanted to post my mod. I still have a lot to learn and this thread is a fun read. I know this is a pretty simple mod for a lot of posters here, but I feel a sense of accomplishment with this build. Removing the factory solder from the pill was probably the hardest part. Lol

+some customisation of the ano
Nice job, and much better than what I made when I started modding.

Nicely done. Donā€™t worry that you think the mod is nothing special. I drilled a hole in a bowl showed it off :person_facepalming: post #8302

Thank you guys!
Hey MtnDon, I like it. Thatā€™s a good idea. The thingā€™s boredom brings us too. : )

Iā€™m waiting for the snow to meltā€¦ā€¦ but I think Iā€™ll have to shovel first.

Made an S2+ (shown with 18500 tube) with a 6x7135 biscotti driver and an XP-E2 (on a Noctigon board soldered to the pill) that was supposed to be binned at 485nm according to RS-components.

It appears to peak at 472nm :weary: , which is the common blue wavelength and not that nice ice-blue 485nm, and the too fast biscotti driver acts a bit weird too, canā€™t switch the mode memory off.

So a bit disappointed after 1.5 hours work, but it was nice to do some soldering again, was a week ago already :person_facepalming:

Nice! Maybe one of these days Iā€™ll build a blue or red light. I think itā€™s cool!
