[M4D deal] 21700 FW3A presale list

Thanks for the information Martin!

I was hoping that the tube could also be interchangeable…so that it could be used in the FW4A :innocent:
Well, not this one…

This is the last I’ve heard. Has the light gone on sale yet?

You will get another email to this adress when the light can be ordered!

the groupbuy has not started - but Neal plans to start it this week :)

looks like it is on… not sure if I should cross post the code from Neal’s FB page though

starting to fight the PM system now...

edit sent the PN to all people on the list in post#3

Could someone sum up descriptions of the kind of illumination vs. heat expected from the several different emitters offered?

Cree XPL Hi 1A
Cree XPL Hi 3D
Luminus SST20 4000K

Thanks Martin, Ordered!

What happened to the 7A bin? I can’t see it in the drop-down menu.

Off the top of my head.

Xpl is a bigger led and puts out more light for the same amperage as the SST-20. Not as much distance. More expensive.

The SST-20 tends to draw higher amperage and runs a bit hotter than xpl. Its smaller die makes the beam a little more narrow for longer distance. Less expensive.

More details are in the main FW3A thread, especially in the first few posts.

E-mail received !

I do have a question though: does this deal have an “expiration date”? I’m just asking to manage my funds accordingly!

Thanks Martin! :+1:

Individual codes will expire, but there will probably be a coupon code of some kind for it for a year or two. The discount generally gets lower and lower over time. So no big rush.
Then again, if it goes out of production, it is gone. It just depends on its popularity.

Thanks for the reply Jason!!
Well, let’s hope it doesn’t go out of production before I get one for myself

Any advice/recommendation on a suitable high-capacity battery for this? I”m finding I’m draining my FW3 every four or five days, walking the dog in the dark.

Orbtronic and other places offer a 21700 Samsung 50E 5000mAh Battery Flat Top INR21700-50E

50E is good.

Yep, 50E/5000 mAh sounds good. Anything else out there? Hm, I guess this warrants starting a thread if there isn’t one already, I don’t want to digress.\

There is the LG M50 which is also good, but a bit harder to find and maybe more expensive.

There are high capacity 21700 from smaller companies, but it is a bit of a crapshoot what their actual capacity/performance will be.

If you wanted lower capacity, like 4000mah, 21700 then there are good choices from the smaller companies, but for high capacity I’d stick with LG or Samsung. (Note that the 50E and M50 are also sold rewrapped by other companies, but there is always the risk the cell under the wrapper might be changed at some point with no warning)

Anybody have one yet?

I’m curious whether the tailcap will have a retaining ring.
And I’m curious whether the construction/QA/QC will avoid the problems that have arisen for the FW3A that show up in the immense troubleshooting thread for that model.

How does the phrase go: “Competence comes from experience; experience comes from incompetence” or something like that.

Yeah, I ordered one, and now I’m figuring it will need the same takeapart-and-check-everything that has emerged as needed for its little cousin already in people’s hands.

I have one, long tube. everything looks the same like in FW3A only tail switch board is a bit wider.

To fix the problem with short batteries i did solder extra spring at the back and by-passed it. Now i have option for short and long cells.

Love it, massive power, better heatsink and a lot of runtime on HIGH
