Nice.
I don’t have this lantern but I’m not its hater either.

Are those 2835 LEDs?
It may be too late for the contest but a couple of days ago I stumbled upon this.

I love it when you speak Chinese Cereal_killer. Some of the pictures I understand.
Love your work and glad there is a modded light making a showing. :+1:

I like the part when you said “right up till it broke…” looking forward to your OL Contest build! :+1:

Ok guys I need help already! After 35min of googling I’m unable to source a battery charger / power bank module which has full source/sink capability on a single port. They all have stand alone input and output ports.

I did find a application specific uC from ON Semi which supports any combination of source / sink ports including single [type C] port (as well as PD and every other feature you could even dream up) but it requires FW and lots of work I’m unable to even learn to do and that’s getting to far into it, I need a turn key module I can take apart and trace out to include on my board.
I can always fall back on the good old tp4056 or possible add a dedicated type A output somewhere but I’d really like that powerbank function from a single 2 way USB C port.

Ask Lexel.

ADDED:
Or tear down some flashlight-powerbank or cell-powerbank that has a single port.
You can find quite a few flashlights here:

As to cells, Acebeam and Folomov have cell-powerbanks.
ADDED:
Folomov cell is probably the cheapest of these options.

More:
This product is no longer available. claims to have that.
Though I did image search for the 2 boards that they showed - and none is a powerbank. One is a simple buck and the other is a simple boost.

Big and expensive but maybe it will be useful?

EDIT: looks like it needs 4S cells. :frowning:

A mod on the more complex technical side, nice :+1:

Nice start CK :+1:

This is sure to be interesting…

Stick an echo dot in the bottom! :stuck_out_tongue: voice controlled lamp/brightness, that can also tell when to get up! (and give the kids hours of entertainment asking for fart sounds :person_facepalming: )
Seriously though, this is looking good!

:+1:

I've found "this":https://www.ebay.com/i/172769051983?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=172769051983&targetid=595232446069&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=9014964&poi=&campaignid=2086169719&mkgroupid=76147899806&rlsatarget=pla-595232446069&abcId=1141016&merchantid=114609296&gclid=Cj0KCQiAw4jvBRCJARIsAHYewPPR5NkFT3TmD32IWQ4496EjfqctU0KHnEUvVMbGOWpOtv8Mp20oO04aAhYwEALw_wcB which claims it has a bi-directional type c port but doesn't do PD on it (only QC3.0 from the type A output).

Anyone know anything about it? I wouldn't mind giving up qc/PD in favor of the bi-directional port if it's true that the type C port is in/out capable (could probably also leave some other parts off it for space savings if I gave up PD) but I'm not sure I trust the description.

Got some work done on the driver today, I’m using just a basic TP4056 charger iC for now. Also changed the signal inversion duty from a N FET to a BJT (a more “standard” way to invert a digital signal). It looks sorta crazy, especially with the lack of labels on the silk screen layer for now but this is the first actually workable layout I’ve got done, I havent yet got it quite to where I’m ready to order up a set (at $20/set I cant afford to order prematurely)

To do:
Silk screen!!! (WTF is what?)
Doesnt quite pass DRC on the ground poly’s (still throwing 4 air wires), even though it’s good as-is I’m OCD and I’ll definitely put in more time to get those taken care of
USB input board mount (need to draw an eagle part)
Increase trace thickness and/or use a poly for charger batt+

That is the best pawn I have seen in along time.

CK you really speak another language. It’s like you’re trying to communicate something but i just can’t work it out :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice work mate, I hope you get time to finish it
