Maukka, thanks for the test! What kind of reflector or optic did you test them under?

Added a CIE chart for quick tint checking.

Additional observation: mixing 2700K+4000K in different ratios would result in the 3000K or 3500K emitters almost exactly. Same goes for 4000K + 6500K which results in the tint for 4500K and 5700K.

Test was done integrated.

Anybody know what the approximate gain in luminous intensity/Throw is of the e17a compared to E21a under the same optic/reflector?

It looks a bit like a dedomed XP-E2 (low CRI) both in output and die size, but just a bit less, pretty good for a 95 CRI led.

So a quad e17a is about the size of an XP-G LED, and quad E21a is about the size of an XM-L LED.
Would you say the quad e17a will have about 40% more throw than the e21a at the same power setting?

Tint vs. current on the same 6500K version. Fast sweep with only 3 seconds spent on each step.

I tested only 2000k and e17 has a very low lm/w. And, generally. you get same picture in narrow optic (a smalled spot and seeming increase of range). A only advantage of e17 series is a rosy tint at a lower current than e21

XP 20 mm x 5 degree with custom matted #320 sand and slightly cleared dichloroethane. Bottom of lens is cutted off to 0.3 mm ([GB ended,discussion only] CRI > 80+ NICHIA 2000K-6500K [E21A/219B/219C/319A/144A/757GT-F1(Optisolis)] - #475 by clemence GB 351D closed. - #100 by Bob_McBob). And i will be compared parallel 2000+3000k with 10x30 elliptical lens. I have it in e21 and, for me, throw is low as outdoor light. All optics is yajiamei

So if I am understanding you right your are using a lens like this(Page Not Found - Aliexpress.com)? Is it a multiemitter setup(VR16SP4) or single emitter setup?

Yes this lens. Maximum 2xe21 on vr16s1 (hole dia 4.8 mm). Very carefully when installing the lens, damage to the phosphor is possible

Have you played with using the Green/Lime E17A in a tint mixing array in order to better track the BBL?

Has anyone gotten an E17a quadrix to fit in a 1 x AA/14500. Since I missed the Jetusolis GB, I want to make 3 Tool AA Quadrix setups - 1 each at 2000K, 4000K, and 5700K. I could probably file down a 16mm E17a board to 14mm but I’m afraid to damage the E21a emitters.

I have quite a few 219b R9080s in different tints (3000K, 3500K, 4000K, and 4500K)so that’s the backup plan but I love the range of tints and the ability to mix with the Quadrix setup.

Filing down a 16mm seems like it should be a reasonable solution, as long as you’re careful not to touch the delicate phosphor coating on the emitters while handling it.

I also remember Clemence saying something about being careful not to damage the ceramic insulating layers when drilling. I’d suggested making your filing motion mainly around the circumference, rather than up and and down.

1 x E21A would be an option, except the 10mm single emitter boards are out of stock, and if you’re using a 14500, that might be a bit much for the emitter.

Maukka, have you done this same output/voltage sweep on a 9080 version e17a yet? Is it possible for you to do one if not? I’m very curious how the 9080 Vf and efficacy look.

Clemence lists all of his E17A’s as R9080 except the 2000K and 2200K. But even the 2000K actually tested at R9080.

The voltage curves should be generally similar, although it is possible they are of different bins, and within a voltage bin, there can hypothetically be up to 0.2V difference at 350mA.

Output can be estimated by multiplying by the ratio of the output bins, which are given as BXX for the E17A.

So to estimate the 4000K (B11) at a given current, take the output of the 6500K (B12) and multiply it by 11/12. For the 2000K, multiply it by 8/12.
