Emitter swapping Astrolux FT03

I have the Astrolux FT03 XHP50.2. If I order this Emitter, do I just unsolder the original and solder this one on?

Yea you can but you can also buy the FT03 with this LED already, It will fit on the SST40 board fine if you go that route.

Ok sounds good. I actually ordered the 5700k one. Come to think of it since the other choice is the 6000k, it’s basically the same led. I don’t think I’ll swap it out. Tint probably the same. :money_mouth_face:

You can try slicing the dome on the XHP50.2 that will make the tint more yellow.

Where’d I put my Sushi knife again?? :sunglasses: lol but seriously after reading excellent article in BLF on doming, I think I better practice on a cheap Cree first. I’ll probably slice half the emitter off :innocent:

The XHP50.2 is fairly safe to slice the dome as its a flip chip LED, The bonding wires are hidden. I used a 1mm Thick washer on mine and it turned out okay. You can probably go 0.80mm you would be able to see if its to low from eyeing it. Just put the washer around the LED, So the LED sits in the middle hole of the washer.

I killed a SST-40 slicing it when i hit the bonding wires. These are defiantly easier to slice, Just make sure the dome is flat after slicing and has no odd bit sticking out. The washer helps make it flat.

Just to dredge this thread up - If I want to change the led is it the xhp50 3v? or doesn’t it matter?
Beautiful light, the most hideous tint I have ever seen sadly. Electric white/blue with a huge green corona. Maybe I just got too used to high cri, but I can’t live with this led.
Do all the xhp50’s suffer with this, or is just the version I have, 6500k. I was thinking of putting a Cree XHP50.2 J2 40G Neutral White 4000K CRI80 LINK in it.
Thanks for any advice.

It will be the 3v you need, so unfortunately the one in your link wouldn’t work. I have some 5700k ones in my Q8 that aren’t too bad, I got them from Sofirn. I normally prefer warmer tints, but I wanted to see what the Q8 could do with them, and it’s usable.

I have an FT03 with the 5000k SST40 which is quite nice, so if you wanted a slightly more throwy beam with a better tint you could try that. Other than that, you could try an XM-L. You have lots of CCT options with those.

Thanks for the help :+1:
