What did you mod today?

Dale, that is just a work of art! That is a beautiful light!

Not much of a mod, but really tested my patience! I stacked a second current sense resistor on my S12 driver. Could not find the right physical size so had to go one bigger. The first attempt resulted in assembly and current check, still at 6 amps. :frowning: Took it all apart and worked on the stack a little more and now I get 9.1 amps!!! The Nichia 219C’s at 4000k now look much better and it really does not generate that much more heat.

I really like this light, could almost bring myself to test EDC it.

Nice! I’m holding off getting the S12 sofar, but it really has great potential!

It really is super compact and not quite as floody as one would expect. I really do like it, just would like ramping firmware. Does not need a side e-switch, IMHO.

Some remarks:

*the screws but also the threads in this light are made of cheese, use a very well fitting screwdriver (I had to drill one screw out, so now the head hangs on 3 screws instead of 4, which is no problem at all btw)

*there are no o-rings anywhere, just some grease in the fittings.

*the 3000K SST-20 works very nice in this light, but I regret the White Flat, it does not throw all that better than main led (it is in place of the UV led so it may get less current) and the beam is ringy.

*the ledboard fits over the edge of the driver board, but is also fixed in place with two pins that are soldered inside two small holes in the ledboard.

*it is a bit tiny in there :open_mouth: , at these times I admire tterev’s mods even more.

I haven’t decided what LEDs I want to put in mine. Of course, mine only shipped today from China, so I have a month to decide

Must have forgotten to hit post earlier…

Made a base for my LT1. Used a salvaged T&B brass floor box cover. The casting is not great and it has stress marks in the brass, so likely will not get a high polish. I need to make the black spacer ring again, not round… could not find my dividers. But, I like it. It will not tip now and looks nice on the headboard.

Put a SBT90.2 in a convoy L2. Man, it is a big beautiful emitter.

I changed the FET to a sir800dp. With an aspire 26650 and clamp meter I measured about 22A. With a 10mOhm shunt to simulate the resistance of the tailswitch I measured 20-21A. With the light assembled I measured 280kcd at about 5s after turn on. The beam looks just a tiny bit smaller than an EE X6 with dedomed SST40.

This host has seen several emitter combinations. Before this I had a spacer and 3 EE X6 reflectors. With 3 2mm WFs it pulled about 19A and did 290kcd. With my ceiling bounce calibration it did 3600 lumens. The 3x 2mm WF is a pretty potent setup. Before that I had 3 sliced SST40s that pulled 18A and did 215kcd and 4500 lumens. Now with the SBT90.2 it does 280kcd and 4050 lumens. Take these lumen measurements with a grain of salt but they should be consistent for these lights.

More anduril piston drive lights (2 of them are for sale)

my bank balance :frowning:

Serious mod! I haven’t paid much attention to those emitters, they have a hefty price tag. It came pre-mounted on a 20mm MCPCB?

Cool good too see the Lux and Output numbers… the L2 has a smaller reflector than the FT03 so I’m not that low on my Lux numbers… try a 30T in it if you have one, should boost it a bit.

. Here are the 3 FT03 I have… L/R FT03/SBT-90.2…. FT03clean de-domed SST-40…. FT03/NW (dome on) SST-40 ………all 3 set to about 80-85lms.

. Just to compare the size of the spot in the same light with these different emitters…

Yeah it’s a serious emitter. Hopefully it will become easier to get, if not cheaper. I think with all of the mods on here the emitters came from lantend in China. They came bare. The footprint is close enough to the MTG that those MCPCBs work.

I was hoping for a little bit more but I’m not disappointed. You saw 22.5A with the 30T? Apparently the K75 driver pushes 28A. Not sure how we can boost the current with direct drive mods; a few VTC5A in parallel? I was thinking a amutorch AM30 with its 3x 18650 in parallel would be a good host for this LED.

Yep me too, I was expecting more cd , but I look at it (now) like a de-domed SST40 (throw) on steroids, so it will do… It’s an impressive, tough, hungry, heat generating LED…

. I saw 22.5A with a 30T and on an Ohm RUN 21700. I suspect it’s all the stock FT03 driver can give, (didn’t change the FET I do have plenty of Infineon and SIR800 though) with 18awg bypassed springs and 18awg leads….I messed a bit with shimming but it was a minor gain…

. I would like to try it in a Lumintop SD75 just need to come up with a 4P carrier… I sent Victor a e-mail… see what he can do…. maybe get me a couple whole kit (s) like for the GT?

after reading of darkening domes I decided to open up and check my Jaxman U1 nichia. All was good behind the UV pass glass so….
The mod: NERFED the driver down to a single 7135 cleaned and reassembled.
:sunglasses: Now I have to use it more!

Put a 3V XHP50.2 in an emisar D1.

The D1 host is a handy little mini thrower, but its reflector has held it back. The center section of the reflector deviates from parabolicity so it’s impossible to completely focus smaller emitters like the 2mm WF or even the stock XPL HI. This results in decreased throw since not all of the reflecting surface is used for the hotspot.

So I put in a sliced XHP50.2. The emitting surface is large enough to get better focus of the reflector. I usually have a hard time deciding what emitter to put in what light (because most of my lights don’t have actual uses, just theoretical uses  ). So in this case it was nice to have the decision made easier by the reflector.

With stock springs and a VTC5A it pulled 16A at turn on and did 46kcd at about 5s. From my ceiling bounce I estimate 3300 lumens.

Edit: in fact partly because of the better utilization of the reflector area, this mod about equals the throw of the stock XPL HI, but with 3x the lumens.

An amazing pic EasyB!

Thanks. There is diffuse sun light doing a bit of phosphor excitation and my phone camera does a HDR thing which makes pics look real good.

Not really a mod, but it might give inspiration

I made a double flashlight tripod mount from a 1U server rack cover, the plan is to make beamshots and flashlight comparisons.
