[Group Buy Interest Poll] SP32A V2 head and tail with 18350 tube using 90+CRI SST20 2700K or SST20 4000K or LH351D 5000K

I would buy one with the 5000K Samsung LH351d led.

Might actually do 2700k.

2700k for sure, especially if it was possible with the silver body.

5000K, different body colors would be cool

Maybe there should be an option to buy both 18350 and 18650 tubes together?

I did this on my own and absolutely love it. I recently put in a Nichia 291B from Bob McBob and it is beautiful. I carry it around every day and still flash it on in dark places just to enjoy it. My comments are:

  1. If you carry it in your pocket without lockout, it will turn on. Fried my thigh more than once. A deep carry clip (not shown) solves that problem. They should include one.
  2. Carrying it a lot makes it look beat up, as you can see in the picture. I doubt Sofirn will want to do this but a stainless steel bezel or insert will keep it looking good longer.
  3. The Nichia emitter gives a ring with the smooth reflector (note Sofirn comment about the SST). I get around this by using a diffuser from a laptop screen (or you could use DC Fix).

I might be in for one of the 2700K versions.

Thank you for your comments!
Can you post a pic with this deep carry clip please?

If they were offered I’d definitely buy an 18350 tube with a magnetic tailcap combo. Just those parts.

The 18350 tube and tailcap from my SP40 works with my SC31, SC31B, SP32A. Having the spare parts adds versatility to those lights.

I like Sofirn lights in general but I just think this is kind of long for an 18350 light. Compared to the Thrunite T1, which has built-in usb micro recharge, this looks like a big light. I wouldn’t mind this size if it had USB recharge but without, it just seems the reduction in size is not worth the reduction in battery capacity.

It is long. I wish it were shorter. It also costs about half of what the light you mentioned costs. You pick what you like. What I like about it is if you leave it in ramping mode, it’s click on, click off and a reasonably good ramp. Button light gives you a battery check. It’s not Anduril but good for carrying around and not worrying if you lose it or it breaks. Oh, and it does need a magnet in the tail.

interested in 1 2700

Is that a purple shorty tube from an S2+?

UPDATE

The poll is closed due to small interest. :frowning:

I’m not claiming that it is so in your particular case, but many times a ring from a smooth reflector is not caused by the led itself but by a slight defocus. Paying attention a proper focus, maybe sanding a bit off the bottom of the centering piece, maybe use a different piece with a different height, can maybe make the ring disappear?

Since using the White Flat, I have focused ( ) more and more on getting the focus of leds right in my builds, not just of speciality leds like the White Flat but all of them. Getting the focus of a led right in all 3 dimensions is a pain and an art, and the resulting beam is highly satisfying for a flashoholic.

Interested if they come in silver and LH351D, the others are too warm for me.

Yes. Unfortunately it did not fit as made. I had a friend with a lathe turn down the threads so it fit.

I am sure you are correct. I just put it back together and didn’t bother with adjusting. I may give it a try sometime. Thanks for the tip.

:+1: This is the best kind of “no” — “no” with (IMO valid) reasons. That way, maybe other approaches can be proposed, or at the very least there is good understanding.

Maybe just making a 18350 tube available for order is a good enough solution?

Also, I wonder if there is an equivalent “Why can’t Westerners just… ?” companion article. Would be interesting!
