CNCman's entry to the 7th annual BLF/O-L contest [mod light category]( FINISHED )

Ok , here is a fit check of the adapter, reflector, bezel and ar coated lense.

The new reflector is considerably larger, 86mm x 84mm vs 72mm x 68mm.

The heatsink is not in yet, so the led is .290 below the reflector. Going to work that tomorrow
Also it may need some focus adjustment, but I hope not much.

There is a lot yet to finish and I will need some help doing a LED swap to a XHP72.2 .
And any suggestions you guys have.
.

That is machining pawn at its best. Nice work Mr CNC. :+1:

Looks great so far.

+1 I love seeing machining set ups

Very cool mod.

Time to assemble and test. We will be making some additional mods if possible.

Is there a resistor mod that can be done with some improvement in output ?

Wow, it checked .287 thick core. That is approx .640 total under the LED.

Here you can see a doughnut hole in the middle. Any suggestions how to stop this ?
This was a 4500k XHP70 LED i think, looks soft white on the wall.

AFAIK that reflector is better suited to small die LEDs. I don’t think you can completely eliminate the donut with an mtg2.

Nice mod CNCman. :+1: Changing the LED to an XHP70.2 and slicing and dicing it might be a good way to go to resolve the donut hole issue and improve output a bit.

I thought that to pinkpanda3310, so after checking the reflector on Aliexpress, will this be ok for the XHP70 ?

Thanks everyone :+1:

Hoop, Yes that is a good idea so I will order one today. It should be here in time.
.

Looks like the same reflector to me.

I was going to ask if they spun out on higher RPMS…I usually would use a parallel as a back stop, set the part and tap it out…
nice work!

Is the donut hole only visible when white wall hunting?

.
Sorry for the late reply. I took it out for a walk last night and yes it was actually big at longer distance.
.
Also noticed it was quite a bit HEAVY. So i weighted it at……

:+1:

I think I gained some weight in the last few days too……

There’s no good way to eliminate the hole other than LED swap.
To eliminate it you can:

  • dc-fix it
  • find OP reflector
  • (?) mount the LED out of focus

Each will significantly reduce throw.
Different LED is what I would suggest…

.
I have a XHP70.2 P2-1A 4292LM 6000K on order from FastTech to swap for the competition and maybe slice and dice. :open_mouth:
That is the best I can do for now. Maybe the donut will shrink some.
Thank You :+1:

Only decent results I have had with that reflector is xhp35HI

Have you tried a different led yet, CNCman ?

.
The XHP70.2 is was shipped from FastTech ( China ) Dec 27 2019, not sure it made it out before the China New Year celebration… :person_facepalming:
Also ordered some testing equipment that has not arrived yet. I wanted to get some numbers for comparison between stock and mod, so it can be put back to factory quickly get numbers, then start chopping again.
