Anyone here used the AceBeam EC35 or AceBeam EC35 Gen II?

They are only similar in size, shape and name

The new model can be controlled entirelly with the side switch. The rear switch is only for turbo mode (from on or off)

The new model also has USB C connector and can be used as a powerbank

I’ve had both and I really like the new model. The only drawbacks are the LED choice (LH351D 6500k, what were you thinking Acebeam?) and that the indicator led for battery charge is totally useless (it lights green from 100% to 11%)

Note that there is a mistake in the manual and when you engage electronic lockout, none of the switchs will work (the manual says that the rear switch remains available to use for turbo in an emergency)

I recommend the Fenix PD36R over Acebeam if you want to use 21700 batteries, since it will have a longer runtime and it’s brighter.

Also a completely different UI (inferior IMO, especially as a duty/defensive light) and no emitter options.

Pd36r has no moonlight mode and no shortcut to any mode except last used one. EC35 II has shortcuts to moonlight, last used mode, turbo and strobe, and don’t forget the powerbank function

It all depends on what user prefers for use on a daily basis. The Acebeam EC35 has the same UI as the Fenix PD36R. The Acebeam EC35 II is different, but prefer the original UI.

The original was/is a fantastic light. A shame they discontinued it

I like the original Acebeam EC35, but I prefer the Fenix PD36R since it is 1600 lumens with a 21700 battery. It is also the same size, and I don’t need to recharge my battery as often.

Thanks so much for this. A bit of a bummer, I was hoping that the UI would be the same. Although I do like USB C connector and the shortcut to turbo on the Gen II, it doesn’t really tie in with what I’m looking for at the moment. And I did question why they even bothered to put that battery indicator on haha

I was pretty set on getting the EC35, but after hearing about the PD36R i’m glad I held off, Ive just ordered mine. The UI is simple and perfect for what I was looking for, thanks for your recommendation

I am an Acebeam person that carried the Acebeam EC35 for a long time until I read about the Fenix PD36R. I bought the Fenix PD36R, and it became my favorite EDC plus it is so much brighter.

I modded my EC35 II from the LH351D 6500k to a XPL HI V4 5000k from intl-outdoor

I lost about 150lm but throw increased to 18kcd (about 270 meters)

beam and tint are much nicer now

Is the bezel glued?

I’m thinking about getting the stock EC35 Gen II, I know Killzone has the SST-20 version, but it’s about $20 more for their kit vs the stock 6500k kit on amazon. I have some FA3 bin SST-20s that are probably better than the one Acebeam used anyway.

You might find killzone coupons to narrow that gap.

The one on Amazon does not include a battery, so the price is actually identical to KZF’s LH351D even without coupons. +$9 for the SST-20 version.

It says it includes a battery. I have some good binned SST-20s. I wonder how green the one Acebeam uses is.

Weird, I cannot find that listing on Acebeam’a store page or by searching for it. I’d say jump on it and swap yourself though!

I bought it, it showed up today. It does include a cell. The bezel is on VERY tight, but I wrapped a piece of bicycle innertube around the bezel and turned it by hand and it eventually came off. The MCPCB looks like the ones Sofirn uses, with the extra notches for the little screw that prevents the board from rotating. Removing that screw should allow using any 16mm MCPCB. I was fine buying the 6500k version since I have a bunch of better emitters and more on the way… I don’t even know which to swap into it….
This light plus the battery for $54 is pretty good, if anyone else wants to jump on it while it’s still available on amazon.

I think the powerbank functionality is pretty cool. I figure I always have a flashlight that’s charged, and sometimes it might be extra useful if I could charge my phone in a pinch. I rather like Acebeam’s build quality, too. The UI is what it is, but the thing is basically five and a half inches long. That’s gonna feel, like, almost an inch longer than a S2+. It’s just not something I can realistically carry on my person - it would have to be in some sort of bag, in which case I’ll prefer other lights and carry a separate power bank.

At this point I’ve given up on having any realistic use case for the lights I buy… This one has a unique UI and I thought it was cool.

Oh sorry - I wasn’t trying to knock anyone. I want to like it, I’m mostly talking myself out of buying it :stuck_out_tongue:

Is there any parasitic drain? I’ve got a Rofis MR50 with powerbank functionality that needs to be locked out at all times because of the standby drain…
