An upgrade to an old favorite, Crelant 7G5 SBT-90.2

Ok, so for the Crelant 7G5 SBT-90.2 build I got the new driver built and the fix for Bistro on it, rebuilt the light and am very pleased with the results…

A big part of the choice for using this light was the tail end, as it holds a heavy duty Tofty switch. These were built in England some years back and were $25 apiece! Worth it though when you need a quality switch that carries serious power, as this light now does… A Samsung 25S cell gives 23.2A at the tail for 4240 lumens out the front. Lux is 352.5Kcd for 1187.43M throw. I Like It! :smiley:

I built a light engine/heat sink to replace the emitter shelf area and I made it about an inch longer than there was room for, bored the end of the battery tube to accept this extra length and tie the heat sinking into the battery tube. :wink:

I needed a spacer as the tube is still longer than an 18650, so I used a .458 Ham’r brass soldered onto a switch board, the board keeps the spacer centered and the heavy BlueSword spring contacts the brass screw in the Tofty switch. :smiley:

In the Crelant 7G5 the reflector has a 53mm opening and is approximately 55mm deep, this yields an excellent hot spot that is fat and well defined, the beam profile is a tube/column of light much like a very fat laser. Will get beam shots later tonight…

What with multiple interruptions it was somewhat of a hassle to build, but well worth it in the end! A great update to a nice old light, very happy with it’s performance… I just need to find some more Samsung 25S cells now. lol

Edit: It’s 610 yds to the little white barn in the one shot, 195 yds to the tree in the other. :wink:

I got the 90.2’s from Wendy at Lantend.

Just ordered 6 Samsung 25S 18650’s from IMRbatteries for $3.99 each. Most power from an 18650 I’ve found.

Neal has had some of the 90.2’s at a good price but I don’t know if he has any left. Worth a look at NealsDeals

you need to find an aspheric for that old classic, i don’t know if it is the same as the 7g5cs , but if it is the 7g5ch collimator head may fit the thread on the neck section certainly looks hopeful :wink:

Yes but… I much prefer a reflectored light to an aspheric.

Nice, it looks like you added some needed mass and heat sinking with your custom pill. I think this is a great size light for this LED, prob a similar beam to my L2 with this LED. Good size to light up a large area a couple hundred meters out. I got 280kcd in the L2 at about 22A.

Thinking of making a custom head via the bezel threads to enable a large reflector to fit on a Q8, thus utilizing 4 parallel cells in the soup can style light while also optimizing it with a larger reflector for this emitter. :smiley:

I don’t have the privilege to hold it in person, but based on the power consumption of the emitter, it should be like taking a hot potato out from the embers :smiley:

I rebuilt my seventh scratch built light today, marrying my previous adapter and pill to a Q8. The big Luminus die does not disappoint in a 124mm reflector! :smiley:

I set the thermal configuration in Bistro on the Crelant last night and it made 55 seconds before I cut it off, figured to stop it a little shy of too hot in order to allow some lee-way. :wink:

The new one today uses Anduril and has far more heat sink mass… have yet to set thermal configuration or get beam shots as dark has yet to arrive. A too short 5M test shows 1.71Mcd though so it should be interesting getting a beam shot… hope weather is accommodating.

hmm … it would be interesting to insert SBT-90.2 into the mf02 housing from the astrolux…

But it’s not regulated, is it?
