FREEME ✌ ASTROLUX FT03S SBT90.2 4500lm 1428m 26650/ 21700/ 18650 Flashlight - EXPIRED

You may not be understanding the specs here. Samasung 30Q are rated at 15A max safe continuous. They can definitely pull more than 15A in shorter durations. I’ve measured my Astrolux S43S to pull 19A from a 30Q. 20-22A is not a problem as long as you don’t pull that for like 10 or 15 minutes. At that level it tends to get above the rated safe temperature of 75°C before fully discharging. A 15A load is where it can drain all the way down and still not exceed the max rated temperature. This is why 15A is rated as “max continuous”.

Okay, it seems to be a rare problem.

Thanks for the comparison Brymboman22, previous comparisons in other flashlight had the SST40 slighty edging the 90.2 in throw.

There is no reason your 30q should max out at 15A unless their internal resistance is higher than typical, the 15A figure is just the safe continuous discharge rate. (EDIT: oops didn’t see this was already adressed by JasonWW)

I wonder if they beefed up the current path for the 90.2 version.

Really? The SST-40 measures about 900 meters, I think, and the SBT-90.2 version is rated 1400 meters. Has anyone measured the throw on this SBT-90.2 version?

Yep there

In his Nightwatch NI40 the SBT draws 20A and throws 229 000cd, while the SST40 draws 8.4A and throws 261 000cd, the SBT has twice the lumens.

Of course this may vary some depending on the reflector, focus, current path, cell used, and bin of the leds.

Seems the reflector of the FT03S has problems!
so i swaped reflector and lens from my FT03 SST40W...
(FT03S lens has blue AR / SST40 looks clear)

claimed: 510kcd / stock:391kcd / FT03 reflector: 433.5kcd

can you test and swap yours too? (FT03S<>FT03)

high res: https://m4dm4x.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/FT03SvsFT03_switched.jpg

Lumens are up to 4800 (4500claimed)
its IMPORTANT to do temp cal and set limit! (55° here)

runtime in HIGH (double click from off)

Martin, have measured the current with the SBT 90.2 ?

Thats interesting, I am going to do some more tests this evening weather permitting, from a more elevated position, which should allow me to better judge the throw.
I’ll try the reflector and lens swap at the same time, and I’ll be taking my old camcorder to see if I can get some beam shots.

best cell i have (21700 / 4000mAh from Sofirn) squeezes 17A
but since the Lumen match that should be okay....

remove the Oring between head and bezel - much easier to play around
and mind the rectangular LED/spacer shape on theSBT!!

Thx :+1:

That’s pretty resonable for over 400 kcd with the right FT03 reflector.

Will do, and I’ve aready come across the spacer when I had to check for paste, it’s not the most robust of things!!

At how many seconds did you measure it? The first 2-3 seconds are 10% brighter. Also the earlier batches of the SST40 FT03 had no AR coating.

Something didn’t seem right to me as well. The beam is only about 10% smaller than my NI40. For some reason it’s still about 70% more intense which doesn’t make sense since the beam is very close in size. I also noticed that the beam is more green/yellow compared to the NI40. Not sure if this is caused by the batch of LEDs or reflector.

That’s a Dedomed SST40, not stock. It’s still interesting that it was outthrowing the SBT90.2 though. KawiBoy1428 got 16.5% more cd from the SBT90.2 compared to a dedomed SST40 in his FT03 (Same reflector).

Thx for the info, makes sens now :+1:

Banggood not so good!

I was one of the first to place a pre-order for the first batch. I got a shipment notice on 1/10/20. Banggood never updated the order to include a tracking number. So yesterday, 1/20/20, I contacted them via chat. I was told that the order was returned to them due to logistical issues; whatever that means. They said that an email was sent to me about the delivery issues. But I never received it.

They said they would resend it and send a shipment notice whenever that occurs. FLAKY!!!

I also was one of the first #12 I believe. They emailed me this morning stating they have no inventory of the ft03 and they could not re deliver the light and wanted to give me a refund.

I just took at look at the lenses noticed the AR on FT03S is super dark purple~ compared to regular FT03 I had on hand the hot spot wasn’t as apparent for size variation compared to your photo when switching the reflector though swapping the lens the FT03S seems clearer.

was told they could reship electric vehicle direct mail to the US. hopefully its quick like my ft02 was using that method.

Thanks Martin for catching it! I hope Astrolux can make a set of the FT03 SST-40 reflector and lens so we can replace the inferior ones that came with the FT03S. I’m still waiting for my FT03S scheduled to arrive 02/01/20
