Coronavirus **personal experiences** thread

The word you are looking for is Gallows Humor
Still bad timing.

Levity and gallows humor are pretty similar.

Look, the news about Wuhan coronavirus is pretty grim.

I was just trying to lighten the mood a little.

I admit that my sense of humor is very sick, but according to my hero Dr. Drew Pinsky, levity is very important in life, especially when things look grim.

Are you having another bad day?

Actually I was until I opened up some packages that I received yesterday.

I got some very nice Bluetooth headphones that put a smile on my face.

Apparently there's nothing like receiving a new toy to improve my day, though they say laughter is the best medicine.

...

If you guys don't see the value of levity, there's no hope for you and no one can help you.

Jokes about bad situations actually help your mental health.

If you don't like the joke, that's fine.

But that joke is pretty tame compared to the ones that I usually come up with and do not share on BLF.

One case confirmed in Germany ,they didn’t go to China,
They had contact with someone who had contact with someone From the town in China that it originated from .

Whoa. If Kevin Bacon ever gets coronavirus, we’re all dead…

You’re safe , He’s too busy doing EE adverts in the uk.

Here's a link to EE (on wikipedia) for those that do not recognize that acronym:

There is info about people called “super spreaders”. People who can spread the virus to 36 people instead of the normal 4… Any info about that?

F*G A!

It appears that the 3 new cases are employees of the same firm in Bavaria. Colleagues of the man who was infected by a Chinese lady who did an in-company traning there.

This virus has a lot in common with a flu virus. Almost every winter there is a flu epidemic in NL. We call it an epidemic when there are 50+ people per 100,000 infected. The flu virus mutates every year, but not that much. This means there is medicine that more or less can contain the spread and the disease itself. Worldwide the “common” flu causes some 650,000 death’s per year. And 41,400 average deaths per year in the US from 1979-2001. Different methods in 2010 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported a range from a low of about 3,300 deaths to a high of 49,000 per year.
The difference of this virus is that it is new. The cures or remedies of the known flu’s don’t work. Your (my) body has to do the job on its own. And people with a fragile healt are more likely not able in doing that.

But this is not a bubonic plague or Ebola. It is more or less something that just popped out of the giant petri dish of Chinese markets. And it is handled like so many things. First you let a few insect’s escape, do a lot of nothing, ignoring and denying, and end up chasing them with the biggest cannons you have. While shouting: don’t panic, don’t panic!

Jaxman store

I purchased some things on ebay on saturday and still not shipped.

The coronavirus is the cause.

I ordered a few things from Banggood a week ago , still not been shipped , other stuff has been shipped

I put it down to new year over there and not coronavirus

Shenzhen is 1000km away from the area that the virus came from so I wouldn’t put your late delevery to the virus

There is not danger. The virus can not survive on surfaces more than hours.

That is a good analysis. For all those that want to shoot the messenger, remember that all media has a on/off switch.

Check CDC

Q: Am I at risk for novel coronavirus from a package or products shipping from China? There is still a lot that is unknown about the newly emerged 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) and how it spreads. Two other coronaviruses have emerged previously to cause severe illness in people (MERS and SARS). 2019-nCoV is more genetically related to SARS than MERS, but both are betacoronaviruses with their origins in bats. While we don’t know for sure that this virus will behave the same way as SARS and MERS, we can use the information from both of these earlier coronaviruses to guide us. In general, because of poor survivability of these coronaviruses on surfaces, there is likely very low risk of spread from products or packaging that are shipped over a period of days or weeks at ambient temperatures. Coronaviruses are generally thought to be spread most often by respiratory droplets. Currently there is no evidence to support transmission of 2019-nCoV associated with imported goods and there have not been any cases of 2019-nCoV in the United States associated with imported goods. Information will be provided on the 2019 Novel Coronavirus website as it becomes available.

Then again, they don't know, but it's likely that the risk is low.
