Hey, i just received an order here, and this includes a quad SST-20 with optics.
I’m pleasantly surprised to see that it fits just fine, as long as you stick the feet of the optic in the slightly narrower slots.
The slightly wider slots are for the screws.
…but the narrower slots are still too wide…
You’ll have to secure the feet in the slots with a drop of Kafuter UV curing glue (or something similar, as long as it hardens / doesn’t stay flexible) before screwing on the bezel / screwing in the pill (depending on the light).
It’s very subtle but check and make sure the optic is not resting on the LED substrate. It’s hard to see any problem but once you crank down a bezel it could cause issues at that point.
Here are some fotos and beamshots to give you an idea of what a 90CRI XHP70.2 5000K looks like. It is not the one sold by Kaidomain but a XHP70.2 N2 3A (according to the seller) from Taobao.
In the MantaRay C8.2
Outdoor beamshots at night. The trees are 100-150m away. White balance has been set to 5000K. Sorry for the bright street lamps.
For reference the Convoy L6 XHP70.2 4000K. Note that the XHP70.2 90CRI looks more like daylight while the 70CRI is more yellow/green.
This are three different XHP70.2 to compare the yellow color of the phosphor on the led. From left to right: 5000K 70CRI, 5000K 90CRI, 4000K 70CRI
Thanks for posting that but I honest couldn’t see the difference between the 70CRI and 90CRI in the two pics. Also the flashlights seems to be aimed at different angles, which makes comparison difficult. How does the tint compare? Is one more yellow/green than the other on a white wall?
I will take some white wall beamshots as well. The L6 with 4000K 70CRI is more visible than the 90CRI because it is throwier, has a slightly higher current and the 70CRI is generally a bit brighter. Maybe somewhere in a dark natural landscape it would be better to take beamshots of high cri flashlights.
I finally got round to testing these! I bought a batch when they were first available and another a coulple months later. There’s a very noticeable difference and would say the first batch, although sold as JA3, were in fact JC1. The second batch have a noticeably lower DUV, similar to the first batch with an 805 minus green filter.
I also had a go at slicing these (just above the bond wires). I didn’t notice any dramatic changes to output/throw but the tint gets rosier and the hotspot smaller. Only tested in OP reflectors so far but haven’t noticed the starburst effect I’ve seen mentioned. Overall a very nice improvement.
hodor, that’s good news. When did you buy the JA3? According to your experience, it seems like KD sent Djozz the JC1 instead of the JA3.
Hopefully BanL will resend the correct JA3 emitters to Djozz for free
Also the 2700K JA3 from Fireflies is a bit rosier than the 3000K HD2 bin from KD. The 3000K HD2 from KD was tested by Djozz to be rosier than the KD 2700K JC1 bin.
Got some LH351D 5700K. Can’t test them properly but I think the colour is slightly above BBL. And I wasn’t amazed by the colour rendition.
I have some Nichia 219b -V1 5700K and I consider them to be nicer.
