Coronavirus **personal experiences** thread

He did not invent the virus; he discovered it.

Li Wenliang did not invent the virus and saying he was killed rather than dying from it is a huge disservice to him and his family.

Perhaps you should edit your post to reflect that?

it just means that not only the elderly and weak and pre-ill hoomans are killed off but also the young and strong . it really depends on the course and severity of the infection .

the virus knows no hooman boundaries

Digital viruses are invented by humans. Not the biological ones, they are a product of natures evolution.

I have 5 Aliexpress packages pending for a week, in 5 different stores. Any orders not even handled yet, and no response in Message Center. Do you know if they will soon get to job as normal again? Next week?

I dont think anything is leaving china anytime soon, and ships are being refused docking if they have come from china, airfreight from any of the locked down provinces is not going to happen either

(CNN) The novel coronavirus that’s sickening thousands globally — and at least six people in the US — is inspiring countries to close their borders and Americans to buy up surgical masks quicker than major retailers can restock them. There’s another virus that has infected 19 million Americans across the country and killed at least 10,000 people this season alone. It’s not a new pandemic — it’s influenza. The 2019-2020 flu season is projected to be one of the worst in a decade, according to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. At least 180,000 people have been hospitalized with complications from the flu, and that number is predicted to climb as flu activity swirls.

I complain about this at length at work. If people’d only stay the Hell at home when they’re sick, they wouldn’t take down a dozen others with them.

Take everyday preventive actions to stop the spread of germs.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.
If you are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone for 24 hours without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.)
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. After using a tissue, throw it in the trash and wash your hands.
Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.
Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like flu

if this goes global it will make influenza seem like a nice treat. the thing these reports miss is that influenza has had centuries to spread it is everywhere, this novel virus is new we have zero immunity to it and right now it is confined to a small number despite that its claimed more lives than sars and has 4800 currently in critical condition, imagine how bad it will be if it goes global like influenza has if it gets out of control and spreads in the same way it will be 10x worse.

Got to look at the long term implications , yes right now influenza kills significantly more people but what about in a year or two when this has spread around the world?

Comparing the stats of a fresh epidemic that’s just starting out, with a well established seasonal world wide pandemic really has no merit, ask yourself what it will be like at the same levels?

Here are live stats from John Hopkins. Yesterday was 32,884 with around 400 deaths.

The influenza we have now is quite different from the influenza we had centuries ago. It has constantly adapted and mutated many times over since then. The point I’m trying to make is that panicking will do us no good. Influenza is still a huge problem and yes it has been around for centuries and we have done very little to minimize it. Our behaviors definitely need to change. A lot of people worry about getting sick but then when we are sick we carry on like we’re not. Exposing others with what ever illness we might have.

The main post is about coronavirus confirmed in China Post. It is a very unlikely scenario for anybody to pick up the virus in that manner, especially with how long it takes for packages to arrive wherever you may be.You are more likely to acquire an illness buying a flashlight at your local store or shaking hands with your neighbor. Especially if you don’t wash your hands afterwards or take advantage of the disinfecting wipes provided at a lot of stores here in the U.S. at the entrance. They are provided for you to wipe down the shopping cart handles .

I’m seeing over 700 deaths.

A bunch must have been reported over night. Another 24 in the last two hours

Coronavirus Cases:
34,908
of which 6,106
in critical condition
Deaths:
724

as of 6:27am gmt

good news, see "Trends"-tab, the trend has been slowing down, reaching a plateau:

Great news, just when I was about to order a bunch of convoy hosts!

As far as sterilizing with isopropyl alcohol goes, 70% has been shown to be more effective than 90. Over 70 alcohol doesn’t absorb into pathogens as well, therefore lowering its effectiveness.

I am not sure why coronavirus is a rather novelty term to many, as SARS, MERS when they came out they were also coronaviruses, but I guess at that time people were not as big on FB, YT and other platforms to talk about it constantly and spread the info with the virulence that info spreads today.

Ethanol 70% is good against coronaviruses and viruses in general, here is a test where you can see various substances, on a coronavirus HCoV 229E, on Type 3-parainfluenzavirus, etc.

People think it is worthless, but is actually worth it, even if it is just ethanol 70%.

Glutaraldehyde 2% is pretty good too against viruses, but this one is to be expected of course.

Here you can see the full substance list and mixes of substances.

I’m more worried that it’s going to delay orders. The virus will be well and truly dead by the time any infected parcel arrives.
Even then, it needs perfect conditions for it to survive out of the body for any more than about 24 hours.
