ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum but have been skulking around for a while.

I have a question about some China clones and seem to be thrown to the wolves if I ask anything close to the sort on other forums or on the “dreddit”

I am looking for a few things, any chance that someone has any links or info on a Spyderco Manix 2 (any version, preferably the lightweight) clone that isn’t the Brother version. Also looking for a spyderco dragonfly, and delica. (and yes i already have several of the ganzo delica styled knives which i love) I recently have become passionate about knives and I truly believe that paying for the original is always great, but I also don’t have the money to buy everything that my gives me the tingles when I see it online, so i have been buying clones and comparable models of the knives I like first to get a better feeling of which ones I am gonna spend my hard saved lunch money on! I recently bought a clone Benchmade 940 Osborne, and a very nice clone I might add, and to be honest I had never felt a knife like it before in my life. Not only was it my first experience with any Axis lock on a knife, which was incredible in itself, but also the fell of the knife was something that just seemed to fit my hands nicely and as most of you probably know, when you find a certain knife that just fits right, it is something that might not be shared with your friends or peers but it just feels RIGHT!!! So, I had the same experience with a Spyderco Domino, which has led me to trying to find a clone Manix 2 because of the very similar build of these knives.

So in short, i am looking for a clone of the Manix 2, and the dragonfly, and the delica. Basically a small, medium, and large versions of the spyderco FRN styled knives.

I am also looking for any other wonderful knives that I can get hands on a clone before purchasing. (yes, i am aware that clones are not always 1:1 copy’s and there will always be differences in quality and craftsmanship, but i have had great results with the clones being very close and usually a fairly accurate representation that i can do a little research to find out what might be missing or different and keep that in mind when i decide to make my final choices)

I also would like to thank many of you that have written previous posts on your experiences with certain knives from China, it has led me to buy several knives that i am sure i wouldn’t have ever bought without your insight! Any info or help is welcome and greatly appreciated. And if you have any leads on ANY benchmade, spyderco, kershaw, or any other knives that you think would suit my style then feel free to send me a PM or post response.

No but I’ve had bad luck with Eafengrow. I had a folder that just didn’t want to hold an edge. It turns out that Eafengrow routinely lies about their steel content. LuvThemKnives had some Eafengrow knives tested. All of them were stamped D2. None of them were actually D2. One was 5Cr15Mov!

Best case scenario, it might be 8Cr13Mov. The problem is, how would you know? So ask yourself if you really love the knife. If so, just spend some time using and sharpening it before you invest in a custom sheath.

I don’t remember seeing a clone of the Manix other than the Brother that is a clone of the Manix XL, but if you like the Manix and Domino, you might like the Native. You can find them on Aliexpress and DHGate by searching C41 knife.
Also, here’s a Reddit subforum dedicated to Chinese knives and clones so asking questions like this won’t lead to members wanting your head on a spear

You’re welcome! PF has a couple of interesting designs for sure.

One of many sellers on Ebay that have Spyderco Clones.

I was going to quote him, but don’t want to propagate. That was so ridiculous to show a bloody finger cut. What’s that supposed to prove? Yes, the knife cuts. Yes, he’s clumsy. Weird, if you like sipping on your own blood. :confounded:

So out of all the known Spyderco clones, is there any particular one that is notably close to the quality of an original?

While Chinese knives can come very close to imitating a higher end production knife, from what I’ve experienced it is often the case where the Chinese clone is much heavier. In one case, saw a Spyderco that normally weighs like 3.3oz, where the clone is 5oz. That’s a huge difference!

Life is often strange, but at the same time it is nice to have so many nuances, points of view … Some guys complimented me for showing the cut finger, other people disagreed. Well, my intent, in addition to making it clear how sharp the blade is, is that you have to be careful with knives, because it takes very little to get hurt. As in my case, a little distraction and I cut myself, like a fool/stupid. Beyond that, if it bothered you, please apologize me, I didn’t want to be offensive or just plain stupid. I didn’t want to make anything spectacular. Just show the reality, that is, if the knives are not used well, they cut.

They are selling gorgeous custom scales for SAK on aliexpress. Someone tried them?

Those are pretty for sure. How do you search for them?
Aren’t all the SAK riveted? If so, how would you put the scales on?

Yes you need to drill the rivets to replace scales on the alox version. There is a pictures about the process on the store page.

Thanks for linking to that store. I can see it’s going to be an expensive one for me. Their leather bike bags are really nice.

Did you see the Brass scalpel holder

Brass or Titanium WW AAA flashlight.

That’s Prometheus Beta.

Budget knife on a budget… this is what $7.50 at Stat Gear gets you:

Looks ok.
But that hi-rise pocket clip placement???

$7.5 usd / ~7€ decent knife?

Challenge accepted!

This is what I would choose here in France. Not a pocket knife though

Hultafors HVK

For a folder, not sure 7€ can buy an Opinel 8 here

Nice! Looks similar to Morakniv Craftline.

at a local Walmart, these were clearanced for $1 each.

cool, shows 75¢ online

I think I had that exact Ozark Trail knife. It came in a gift set with a few other things. Fit and finish was surprisingly good. Action was okay. It’s almost unbelievable for a buck. Of course, steel is where the price hones true. It came fairly sharp and was easy to sharpen but it just wouldn’t stay that way. Some of the Ozark Trail knives were independently tested and came back as 3Cr13Mov. That sounds about right for my experiences.

Hmm, I might waste a buck tomorrow….
